:D Ruckus has landed

Our new Ruckus kit has just arrived:D Exciting stuff! (Cheers Simon, again!)

 

What do we do now?

 

Just planning the best way to roll it out... Will it coexist with our current wireless ("domestic" access points) so we can do it gradually, or is it better to wait till half term and do a "big bang"?

 

We literally have opened the box, grinned, then closed the box again as we've got a few other jobs on at the mo

 

Any tips?

I can't see how anyone could leave goodies boxed up. I'd have them opened and all over the place.

When we got ours, I took it out, plugged it in, played with it for 20 minutes and realised I was finished... put a few access points in classrooms and told select staff about it for testing, then put the 2 trolleys on after school a couple of days later.

 

Never had any issues since!

Ruckus rocks. We had the guys from Net-Ctrl do a survey and demo for us. Bought some POE's and lobbed the units where needed. Took us about a week to get it all up and another to tweak the layout.

An in-the-shower-thinking-moment this morning: how directional are the access points? are they best laid on their backs or hung on a wall - if they are hung on a wall do they get a "blind spot" behind them?

Hung on the ceiling is best, provided you have the infrastructure to cope, failing that on the back of a wall where the wall is facing the outside.

Well, I don't know what our school's made of, I thought so too struggling to get a decent signal through more than one floor or two walls at the moment; I think the old APs actually went through walls better they handle large numbers of connections, like a room full of netbooks, much better though... I THINK I've got them set up right, I've put the power up to full in the setup - any ideas what, if anything, I've done wrong?

Our indoor units are spec to 0-50c but will got to -5c easily, but -14c – 17c is not an option

 

But In a freezer you will get condensation which will kill the indoor units, so you will need the 2741 (-20c to +65c) or 7762 (-40c to +65c) depending on if you need bg or dual band 11n?

I possible slight exaggerated a Ruckus AP ability

 

I've just looked over my deployment and no teaching room is more that 1 wall away from an AP (apart from my reception class

 

Got 6 APs - 8 proper classrooms but obviously cover the suite and hall as well

 

The school is all on one level - 1960s vintage = don't think the walls are too thick.

I've put one of my access points on the wrong "map":rolleyes: and I can't get it to come off so I can put it on the right one:confused:. How the do you do it? please?
