mbedford Posted June 1, 2010 Posted June 1, 2010 Yeah, what do you have to lose really now, when i did the BIOS update i reinstalled windows anyway, didnt think of trying it before lol
nick2114 Posted June 1, 2010 Posted June 1, 2010 Ok here goes nothing it only takes about 15 mins now - set up a USB stick to do it
nick2114 Posted June 1, 2010 Posted June 1, 2010 Nope straight to PXE Oh well I'm outta ideas now, Mike give me a shout if you get a look at the bios on the machine that u have it working on, see if theres any options i've missed did you install with the add drivers option or just from OEM disk?
mbedford Posted June 1, 2010 Posted June 1, 2010 We did ours from a WDS deployment so no CD at all. I suppose there is the slight chance that the driver we used is already in our driver store for another machine. I will have a look tomorrow. Mike 1
SYNACK Posted June 1, 2010 Posted June 1, 2010 Try installing it with a fresh hard drive, I had one hard drive that had simmilar issues and would not accept a propper boot sector no matter what was tried. The other thing to check is that the BIOS bootloader/MBR virus protection is not enabled as that will prevent the writing of a propper boot sector also.
carnage501 Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 We are experiencing the same problem here, anyone have an update about a possible solution?
gshaw Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 Not a solution but adding us to the list of Windows 7 \ MR052 problems Tried BIOS update but no luck there either 1
carnage501 Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 windows 7 works on this laptop if you install over the top of xp, just not from scratch!!!
dhicks Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 We are experiencing the same problem here, anyone have an update about a possible solution? I had an issue installing Windows Server 2008 R2 on a Dell machine that turned out to be a corrupt ISO image downloaded from Microsoft's website via a standaard HTTP download - I had to use Microsoft's download manager thing to get a working ISO in the end. Might be worth a try, the corrupt ISO gave me similar symptons - the DVD would boot, run thorugh part of the install, then conk out with a cryptic error message about not being able to load drivers. -- David Hicks
sted Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 (edited) is it worth trying to do an install from mdt / pen drive maybe the dvd drive is faulty and id do a ram check as well Edited July 14, 2010 by sted
gshaw Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 is it worth trying to do an install from mdt / pen drive maybe the dvd drive is faulty and id do a ram check as well Failed for me when imaging from SCCM, other laptops \ desktops working fine though
jsnetman Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 Just had exactly the same problem here, bios update worked from the stone website www.stonecomputers.com - /ftp/Laptops/MR052 Bios/
Andrew_Sharrad Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 Hi, For anyone that still doesnt have this working, can I recommend this possible work-around please? - Install the MR052 "D" version BIOS - http://www.stonecomputers.com/ftp/andrews/mr05210c10d.zip (this ZIP contains the C BIOS too, in case you need to roll-back). - Do a custom/advanced Installation of Windows 7, which allows you pick the partition sizes. Windows will automatically try and create a 100MB boot partition, for functions such as EFS - you need to delete this partition and install Windows onto the first and only NTFS primary partition on the disk. I cant guarantee that this will work, but its my best suggestion for now
jsnetman Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 Our image deployment only uses one partition so I guess thats why we have them going here. You still need the updated bios though.
Andrew_Sharrad Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 Hi, I've had some more users mention that installing Vista first and then upgrading to Windows 7 seems to work. Its possible that you could use a Windows XP or Vista based PE boot CD that includes DISKPART to create a primary active NTFS partition on the drive, and then format it, and then get Windows 7 to install to it. If that works, it may be a quicker way of getting Windows 7 working. Just a suggestion... Regards, Andrew
Winner Posted August 27, 2010 Posted August 27, 2010 Anyone manage to solve this? We are still having issues. I've tried it with both the Windows 7 and Vista DVD's with all the aforementioned BIOS' but we've had no luck.
krazy Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 we have this error after having performed a remote install
Winner Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 (edited) Here's a workaround for this problem for anyone trying to reinstall with SCCM or MDT. The MR052's just don't like partitions created by Vista/7; if you currently have no working OS on the drive follow these steps: * Edit your Task Sequence so that it does not run the "Format and Partition Disk" step for these laptops. * Boot off an XP CD * Delete any current partitions, create a new one. Shutdown the laptop. * Boot into WinPE. * Bring up a command prompt and type format c: /q * Start your Task Sequence as normal. If you have systems that still have an XP OS installed, you should be able to boot into WinPE and start the Task Sequence normally (while skipping the "Format and Partition Disk" step). When the image is applied the disk contents will be wiped. I haven't tested this installing directly from the Windows 7 DVD, but in theory the same process should work. Just don't delete the original XP partition!!! P.S. - This doesn't require the BIOS update mentioned earlier in the thread. Edited September 21, 2010 by Winner 2
gshaw Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 Just tried the above and it works perfectly, very strange problem really, not sure what Vista \ 7 does differently or why the laptop should care what OS is making the partition. Does mean we have to create the partitions on our laptops manually beforehand but at least they're getting imaged now.
FN-GM Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 Did anyone actually get this working please? I updated the bios and it didnt make any changes. I can install windows 7 manually but when i pull down a generalized image it just wont boot. It works fine on other computers.... Thanks
Rawns Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 I got mine sorted by pure fluke. I have two HDD's and I originally installed Win 7 on the first HD and then formatted and put my current Win 7 on the second one. Seems the first HDD was being targeted first in my BIOS boot priority. Changed it by having the second HDD at the top of the boot priority list and that was it! Win 7 loads instantly without the DVD in the drive and without any kind of "OS not found" error!
SW-ICT Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 Ive installed Windows 7 on loads of laptops and Computers, so far and no problems untill i try a Stone MR052 Laptop. Windows 7 Installs fine, and seems to be working until i take out the OS DVD and reboot then it cant find the OS. If i put the OS dvd back in (not booting from it) Windows then loads from the HDD. Strange, this has happen on two different Laptops of the same model. Ive also upgraded the bios. One thing I found with one of our stones is that one or two of the computers where not set up correctly Ive had the same problem- I may be wrong... so please forgive me if I am The sata cable was in port one on the motherboard... See if there’s a port Zero (try it in port Zero) Then make sure the bios is set to legacy... (I think that’s what it’s called) Worth a giving it a try... Let me know if this works 1
FN-GM Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 (edited) Only got one drive in ours setting the HDD as first boot doenst seem to work @SW-ICT these are laptops so we cant do that i am afraid. Edited July 12, 2011 by FN-GM

Maybe you only have one HDD but is there more than one sata port on the motherboard? On ours we had: Sata 0 Sata 1 Sata 2 Sata 3 I changed it from sata 1 to sata 0 Then changed the boot type in the bios to legacy That seem to have worked for me... Seens as yours is a laptop Just try changing the boot config to sata legacy Edited July 12, 2011 by SW-ICT not reading other posts fully 1
