Testing Server 2008

Hi,

 

I have 2 main DCs running Server 2003. I want to start testing Server 2008 and Windows 7, so would it be ok to add a Server 2008 DC onto the network and would the boxes all talk to each other happily? Or would I get loads of problems with GPO replications?

 

Also, can anyone recommend good Server 2008r2 and Windows 7 books?

You have to run X:\support\adprep\adprep32.exe /forestprep and /domainprep (and more) on the 2003 boxes from the 2008R2 DVD to bring the schema up to the 2008 R2 level.

 

Then no problems.

As long as you have a Windows 7 Computer you can use that to create policies for Windows 7 Clients that will work using your existing Windows 2003 based domain.

(NB. There are a few GPO options that won't work / or are unavailable until you upgrade to a Windows 2008 R2 Domain but I can't remember / find link at moment)

Just dump RSAT (below) on your system and you can configure them through the group policy managment snapin that it installs

You can also create a policy store if it is not there already to make the whole thing more efficient and centralize the templates
