Domain password policies

I want to set a separate level of password complexity for staff and students

 

I believe each active directory domain can only have one policy

 

I read that there are progs that add different levels of complexity for different groups

 

Any of them any good?

 

Any other recommendations?

You could just use 2008 R2, seperate groups can have different policies with it, we use this feature. No GUI for it but easy enough to do with a guide and adsiedit.

YMMV but I've used ppm which is an easier free GUI for that on 2K8.

2003 Server only allows password policies per domain. If you want to create a different password policy, creating a sub domain would be the only realistic way, or a third party tool. Alternatively even better is to upgrade to 2008 Server which allows password policies per OU by default.

TBH we just created a good password policy and forced it on everyone, the staff said that the students would have trouble with it but it turned out to be the other way around

Yes, I know what you mean about Staff having problems remember passwords!
