THERADIOTUBBY Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 I want to set a separate level of password complexity for staff and students I believe each active directory domain can only have one policy I read that there are progs that add different levels of complexity for different groups Any of them any good? Any other recommendations? Thanks
DMcCoy Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 You could just use 2008 R2, seperate groups can have different policies with it, we use this feature. No GUI for it but easy enough to do with a guide and adsiedit.
cookie_monster Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 and 2008 take a look at this. Configuring Granular Password Settings in Windows Server 2008, Part 1
PiqueABoo Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 YMMV but I've used ppm which is an easier free GUI for that on 2K8.
Michael Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 2003 Server only allows password policies per domain. If you want to create a different password policy, creating a sub domain would be the only realistic way, or a third party tool. Alternatively even better is to upgrade to 2008 Server which allows password policies per OU by default.
cookie_monster Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 TBH we just created a good password policy and forced it on everyone, the staff said that the students would have trouble with it but it turned out to be the other way around
