Sorry for posting this here but a) I'm not sure where to put it and b) this forum probably has the most readers so I'll get a quicker answer.

 

What is the collective opinion here:

 

We have a member of staff who is away on long term sick leave. I've been asked to reset that persons SIMS password and to then give that password to the covering supply teacher to facilitate said supply teacher's access.

 

Is there any rights issue about doing this? If the HT authorises it am I covered?

I don't think it's a good idea. Can the supply teacher not have their own account created?

This has been done but it's too complicated apparently for the supply teacher to log in and then navigate SIMS to get to the registration group.

you wont have an audit trail if the supply teacher does something silly. I'd say it is better for you to walk them through the registration rather than reset someone else password and give them their credentials.

This what I did but it's too difficult and time consuming for the supply teacher apparently!

I think it rather depends on your AUP/IT policies. If you don't provide for this eventuality, the person who's account it is could complain...

Just wanted to add, as your school, I would imagine you have to adhere to the same CoCo compliance as the local governments? which would mean you would have to create a new account anyway ;-)

What difference would the account make anyway? (never used sims)

 

could you perhaps just reassign the class to the supply teacher then assign it back to the normal teacher later?.

Same as all the above better to have them navigate threw than give them access to the other member of staffs account but if you do go down the route of handing out the Staff that’s on leaves account password get in it writing to cover your back.

 

Ps. just remember to check that personal details aren’t viewable if you give out the password
