Nero do burn rights for their software which allows this.

Ben

so i take it this has to be done locally, and user accounts for burnrights are stored locally too?

This is what we do on laptops for certain staff to allow them to burn....

Run > Secpol.msc

Local policies > security options

Devices : Allow to format and eject media > Administrators and Interactive users

Devices : Restrict CD-ROM access to local logged on users > Enable

Staff can burn things, but students cant there must be a setting to allow the students to burn also, without adding them to the power user group?

Were trying to get the kids to burn DVDs with Adobe Encore.

Ashampoo Burning Studio works for our restricted users. As standard it only works for admins, but they sent me an add-on which allows everyone to use it. It is free for schools, and packages nicely into MSI too.

We use ImgBurn for CD burning. It's free, plus it plays a quick burst of Mariachi music when it's done burning a CD - much better than a boring old "bing!" or whatever.

ImgBurn will run but not allow burning for non admin users without Nero Burn Rights or the group policy mentioned above.

I implemented the Group Policy and it broke something (can't remember what it was off hand) so we've used Nero Burn rights ever since.

You can add domain users/groups to new local group "Nero" if you only want to allow non admin staff and admins, or allow everyone.

See InfraRecorder FAQ

Damn - I've installed ImgBurn all around school, but no-one's said anything about it not working to me - I can't fix stuff if people don't tell me it's broken! Thanks, I'll have to look in to that.

I am a huge fan of ImgBurn but most of our teachers at the last school simply couldn't work out how to use it.

As such I now install InfraRecorder which is more intuative for those who don't know theirs Iso's from their Ischigualastia.

Same principle about permissions for the burner apply for Windows XP. Should have added before that IIRC this isn't an issue for Vista or above.

Hi,

Does anyone know how at allow restricted users to access the windows CD Burning facility?

Thanks

This is an easy one, surprised no one has mentioned it!

User Config > Admin Templates > Windows Components > Windows Explorer

Remove CD Burning features - Enable/Disable
