Application License Management - How?

One of my teachers has brought an appication and only 10 licences for it. He and the head refuse to buy a site license so I cant look into that.

 

The applcation in question can be installed on a server and then the shortcut can be placed on up to 50 machines but i have to ensure that only 10 machines access the software at any one given time so that we dont break the license agreement.

 

What i need to be able to do is have a program sitting on the server that says once 10 instances of this software is open deny any other requests until one of the current instances ends.

 

Does anyone know how I could go about this?

 

The other option is to install the software on just 10 machines, but this will make a mess of my start menu showing icons for the application when it isnt installed on the majority of the machines..

 

Anyone got any ideas?

Another option is to create a share for this program only. In the properties of the share you can limit the amount of concurrent connections. Point the shortcut to this share and i think you should be ok.

Not tried this myself but seem to remember it being an option for another program i looked at.

That is what I did with Memory Map at one school and it worked fine.
