Adobe Premiere does not support mpeg version from panasonic HDD (SDR-H50) camera

When trying to import video from a panasonic SDR-H50 HDD camcorder into adobe premiere, adobe does not recognise the format. The video format is recognised ok in windows as an mpeg, however panasonic must do something to the file format as Adobe does not see it as a supported format?

 

Has anyone found a way round this?

If the panasonic is outputting non-standard mpeg2 files, then you'll need to use a program to convert your camera files to a more standard MPEG2 stream.

 

You could try looking at FlaskMPEG FlasKMPEG Home Page

 

Obviously this is longer than doing a direct import, but hopefully it'll help for the moment.

Thanks all for your replays, the solution that I found to work the best was to use a program called AVS video convertor this enable me to change the none standard mpeg version into a file format that was supported by Premiere Pro.

 

FYI

We had another issue with a none branded Hard Drive camera that was saving its movie format as .ASF

This file Format would import into Premiere but editing play back was very jumpy. Used AVS Video Convertor to convert into .Mov then import using the quicktime presets, works fine

 

who would think that it woud be such a pain to import these different formats with Premiere!!
