aapka_ankit007 Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 Hello, I am going to use an LCD TV as an electronic noticeboard and connect it to a Windows XP PC which is standalone. I want to operate and update this noticeboard from a single pc only. How can i go forward with this idea ? How can i connect the pc to the lcd tv? How can i create messages to be displayed (i mean which will be the best software for this. I want to display multiple messages in a single screen and not a slideshow. Their should also be a channel to display a scrolling message in the bottom.)? pls help me.. Thanks, Ankit

steveg Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 There are 2 parts to xibo - the server and the client display part. If you only have 1 screen these can both be installed on the same pc, pretty much any old computer will do. Then connect this to the LCD, most likely via a vga cable if the TV has that input. Have you already purchased the TV and computer? Steve

pritchardavid Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 so basically you want to be able to display 2 screens connected to the computer? So one screen for your tasks Second screen (LCD TV Your gonna buy) ?? If you you can connect two screens to your pc fairly easy If you dont have an addon graphics card, you can buy one very cheap, so you have two dvi ports. This way you can use the option to extend to the second screen. Your be able to drag whatever software you want to use on the screen over to the second screen Is this more like what you want to do? Surly you dont want to use the same screen to do you tasks
glennda Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 see if you can get a large lcd monitor, otherwise you are going to spend loads more money on a tv, as they have the tuner so are alot more money, xibo is good, they have really good wiki forums aswell, the people that write it do our job aswell, they are always improving it.

glennda Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 you can get 28 inch lcd monitors at misco for 230, little machine set up another machine as the server (using xibo) or if no rush then wait a month or two as they are currently writing a linux client, but i am unsure at how far they have got (will get my boss to talk to one of the writers as he used to work with him) but it is really easy to use. defo give it a go, or if you want to buy a didicated box navahro do one, but not a clue how much they are http://xibo.org.uk/

glennda Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 xibo can be set up on a windows box, you will just need to follow all the instructions on the website, its pretty simple (well the linux one was so assuming the windows server one will) i have it on a linux server with the windows clients, its then all configured through a web browser
pritchardavid Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 I recommend buy the serif we plus software You be able to create a good website/page for your screen Internet Explorer can full screen on your second screen by pressing f11, so you just see that, nothing else You can create moving text, flash moving picture, the lot, this is what we use to make our page for our screens Website design software – WebPlus X4 from Serif Once the page is made, you just run it from your hard drive not from the internet

Educare_AV Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 Hi, Have you thought about purchasing a OneLan box? This will connect directly to your screen via a variety of connects. You basically then have it set up on your network and you can connect to is via any other pc on your network. Upload any content that you require and even set up accounts so that staff can updates there own sections etc. Great bit of kit that doesn't cost a fortune.
