Fallen Monitor

We have just had a monitor fall off its shelf in a suite. I haven't heard the story of what happened yet but have been asked what other schools do to prevent this happening. Can anyone help with ideas for security systems to prevent monitors falling and getting smashed? Are those poles any good but they look expensive, are there any screw down systems which work?

A picture of the shelf / monitor etc. would help visualise for suggestions.

What sort of monitor is it and what shelf is it on?

You could make the shelf into a cabinet with a perspex front, or why not mount the screen to the wall using a vesa mount or to the shelf using an arm? Just 3 ideas i've thought about.

Most monitors (except, annoyingly, Dell's) come with a standard VESA mount on the back - simply four screw holes 100mm apart where you can screw the monitor to the wall. A basic VESA mount is around £5, although you can get pay more if you want a fancy tilt-and-pan one or whatever. Alternativly, drill a couple of holes in the bottom of the monitor and the shelf and bolt the bottom of the monitor to the shelf, or simply get a tube of No More Nails and glue the monitor to the shelf.

It's a GNR TG704d which has an oval shaped plastic base. The shelf is just like a wooden hutch on the desktop in music tech so that the music and computer keyboards acn both slide under and so have enough space. The monitor base is not strong enough to be drilled. I will have to look into various vesa mounts I suppose.

They all seem expensive over £50 each which will multiply up alarmingly, Does anyone else have this issue?

All our computers had these at my old place. We had a few smashed. It worked out cheaper to replace the odd few broken ones than to buy every single one a device to prevent it.

From where? I'm sure someone on here could sell you one for cheaper, I got a couple off eBay for £5 - £10 each, I think.
