The weblinks with treasure chest type packages on school websites that were shared to others. Always used to be some password of net/connect on many of them although i do not know why. Some really good community spirit back then too as well as squabbles every now and then. The good old days. I think The RM communities have lost a fair few members to this forum in fact.

I know Spuffmonkey, srochford and I (and others) reminisce about uk.education.schools-it ... and the circular arguements over systems between 3 or 4 regulars ... but there was still a fantastic mix of techies, teachers, classroom support staff and advisors that I have not come across anywhere else ... Still, when EG came along the techies drifted over (as did a few teachers), the teachers went to uk.education.staffroom or TESForums and the advisors went to the NAACE lists more. It is nice to have a bit of nostalgia and remember the fun stuff ... but the same discussions about trolls, flames, rants, agreements about playing fair have all happened there too. On usenet though ... there is no DB and everyone can hear you scream! (Usually about the next thread raving about RiscOS!) This place is far more manageable.

It pretty much runs itself over there. I notice that you don't get the same level of banter as used to be around on the old list server though. Everyone takes themselves far too seriously these days. Weren't you on the original testing team with me and Lewis? Rob Moir was there as well - not heard from him in ages. GJE

Yes - do you remember the stuff that Ian Lee used to have at Didcot Girls School (ooer missus)? I still remember the password. In fact, I was one of the dinosaurs hanging on by the finger nails to the list server. I was seduced to the darkside eventually though.

I remember he used to update Microsoft patches on his servers without concern despite using RM and the potential problems it may have caused. Brave guy . All those names mentioned above ring a bell. It used to make me chuckle when people argued against a forum because the list was easy for them, mainly because had a specific monitor set up on their desk just for the mailing list. Not so good for me on some 15 inch CRT though fighting through nonsense mails to get to the useful info Friday Funnies!! now i remember! Edited December 17, 2009 by dalsoth

Well its is pretty problem->solution oriented these days but I still think its a cracking resource for RM related issues. Not sure if people take themselves too seriously or just concentrate on the tech problems rather than having a laugh?

You're probably right, although there are the odd ones that even find something to moan about in an off topic thread!

I'm not allowed to go any more so don't get to see many familiar faces.
