I so want this to knock X-factor off the charts next week...

Because he's nothing more than a karaoke singer?

Because he will fade into nothingness in a matter of months?

Because he won't write his own songs?

Because he's a "pretty boy"?

He'll just end up in the same place as David Sneddon, Steve Bookstein, Shayne Ward, Leon Jackson and all the others.

I hope that he doesn't succeed, then it will send a message to plastic pop manufacturers that we're sick of the whole farce.

If any of them were any good, then they'd use the show as nothing more than a launch point, and not blub when they didn't get anywhere as soon as they're out of the limelight.

Please tell us you had to Google for their names? :)

Wow ... so we should stop all talent shows in case they are part of a big plan of $media_Mogul to earn cash and anyone on them is a waste of space?

Must go tell Lenny Henry, Victoria Wood and a few others that New Faces should never have been aired. Talent shows are not just to find the new people but to give those who have been around a bit the chance they might never otherwise get.

As for David Sneddon ... hold on... you want to attack that they don't write songs? The whole thing about Fame Academy is that it was to turn out a well rounded performer / singer / songwriter ... and I have to admit that I really like some of the stuff he has done for and with Nate Jones.

Yeah ... the format doesn't always work on these programs and you can get people who are targeted at a particular audience, but Brian Epstein forced The Beatles to change their image to target certain groups and it worked ... it is what a manager does, but you get to see some of that on X-Factor ... and a lot of people don't like it.

Let's face it, the music business is as cut-throat a world as any other and any edge someone can use to get themselves noticed then fair play to them. It is not going to stop Simon Cowell and co earning shed loads of money, in fact they are earning more as a result of this so it is almost counter-productive other than taking away the chance from one person to get that big jump to the top from where they can try to establish themselves.

Would people be any different if it had been someone like Jamie who has been on the music scene for some time, has done his apprenticeship you could say ... is a journeyman performer and looking to get to the next level? Is it because it is a young 'nobody' who people think doesn't deserve it?

I really am trying to understand why people think this is such a big thing ...

It is not 'sticking it to the man' ... it is about allowing social networking to turn you into a sheep in the same way you are moaning the Simon Cowell does to people.

If you want fun .. then go Muppets, if you want charity then Peter Kay or Terry Wogan (or many, many others) ... if you want Christmas then there are plenty of new Christmassy songs or let's see what we can do for the sorely missed Kirsty Maccoll.

I think that pretty much sums it up

In which case I hope that you will also be running / supporting a campaign to get people to buy tickets for your local theatres as a stance against big name west end shows?

Hey ... don't go to see over-hyped bands made up of aging rockers from other bands either as they are just playing on the success they had in a previous band!

I think we should all have bought "dead kennedys - pull my strings" instead.

On March 25, 1980, the DK's were invited to perform at the Bay Area Music Awards in front of music industry bigwigs to give the event some "New Wave credibility", in the words of the organizers. The day of the show was spent practicing the song they were asked to play, the underground hit, "California Über Alles." In typically subversive, perverse style, the band became the talking point of the ceremony when after about 15 seconds into the song, Biafra said, "Hold it! We've gotta prove that we're adults now. We're not a punk rock band, we're a new wave band."

The band, who all wore white shirts with a big, black S painted on the front, pulled black ties from around the backs of their necks to form a dollar sign, then started playing a new song "Pull My Strings", a barbed, satirical attack on the ethics of the mainstream music industry, which contained the lyrics, "Is my **** big enough, is my brain small enough, for you to make me a star?". The song also referenced The Knack's biggest New Wave hit, "My Sharona". The song was never recorded in the studio but this performance, the first and only time the song was ever performed, was released on the posthumous compilation album Give Me Convenience or Give Me Death.

I'm tired of self respect

I can't afford a car

I wanna be a prefab superstar

I wanna be a tool

Don't need no soul

Wanna make big money

Playing rock and roll

I'll make my music boring

I'll play my music slow

I ain't no artist, I'm a business man

No ideas of my own

I won't offend

Or rock the boat

Just sex and drugs

And rock and roll

Drool, drool, drool, drool, drool, drool

My Payola!

Drool, drool, drool, drool, drool, drool

My Payola!

You'll pay ten bucks to see me

On a fifteen foot high stage

Fatass bouncers kick the ****

Out of kids who try to dance

If my friends say

I've lost my guts

I'll laugh and say

That's rock and roll

But there's just one problem

[Chorus]

Is my **** big enough

Is my brain small enough

For you to make me a star

Give me a toot, I'll sell you my soul

Pull my strings and I'll go far

And when I'm rich

And meet Bob Hope

We'll shoot some golf

And shoot some dope

Is my **** big enough?

Is my brain small enough?

Had to happen really. Bit annoyed that a song that has naff all to do with christmas has gotten Chrimbo #1 but then again rather happy that the sheep-machine has taken a bit of a knock as a result. And lets not forget the proceeds for RATM go to charity.

Here's waiting for the headlines in tomorrows Daily Mail.

I bought RATM, but hadn't heard it previously... It is f****** awful; but worth it to knock the sh!te that these "reality" programmes generate.

As much as I'm happy that the X-Factor song didn't reach number one, it does seem a shallow "victory" if folk don't even like the song they have bought.

When was the last time a song made Christmas number one that actually had something to do with Christmas though?

There we are then - 5 years, and you're disappointed this time because it's not 'christmassy' - what about the last 4 years?!
