We used to use DNA until they started charging. These guys are free.

DNA I.T Recycling Have built a strong business by offering all our schools in the past a totally free service. Our service has remained free and we never intend to charge for collecting, processing and data wiping. However we have incurred increased costs from the Environment Agency which unfortunately means we now have to charge a fixed £25.00 fee for every collection. We pay a fixed fee to the Environment Agency for each consignment note we produce, we add no charges for anything else other than this. We still believe however you won’t find a legal service better or cheaper than ours and we thank our customers for their continued support

I emailed the Environment Agency to query this charge, here is the response back...

We are unable to comment on prices charged by other companies.

 

A company may produce their own consignment note, so long as they contain the same information and are in a similar format to the ones which the Environment Agency produce.

 

A template can be downloaded from the Environment Agency's website free of charge.

 

If a company wishes to buy a pre-printed pack of consignment notes, which are printed using multi-coloured copies on no carbon required (NCR) paper. The cost of these packs are £20.00 for the standard procedure packs and £25.00 for the multiple collection packs. They can do so by calling the below number.

Make of this what you will. I for one find this practise by DNA to be highly dubious. However, they are a company and need to make a profit, so they can charge what they like. I for one would choose a free one rather than one that charges £25 for a sheet of paper that is available from the EPA in bulk packs.

Don't get me wrong DNA are very good, but these companies make enough money as it is. Safe PC disposal were just as good. Didn't even have to leave the office they did all the work!!

Grr just had DNA cancel on me at the last minute. Next collection they can do is 11th Jan which is no good for us!

 

Would have been OK if they'd cancelled a day or two in advance (they don't have enough drivers because of a funeral - which they should have known about!) so that I could try to organise an alternative collection. Need to get this stuff collected as it's sitting on the stage at the moment with no where to go back to

Do they though? Assuming the equipment is really old crap, CRT's, battered machines that have no resale value in itself, do they make much for recycling? £25 doesnt seem bad to me for someone to take a load of stuff away (though obviously free is better)
