GenieNitro Posted December 6, 2009 Posted December 6, 2009 Hello there, I want to improve compatibility of our school website frontpage. I currently have photos scrolling down either side of the page using a html marquee type effect. It works brilliantly in all browsers gexcept for Internet explorer (of course!) So I'm looking for a free flash widget that will do a similar thing (ie have pictures of school life scrolling across or down the page). Anyone have any good suggestions? I'm not a coder and use iweb for our website development so looking for something I can copy, paste and tweak inside an iframe... cheers S
mikeglover Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 To improve compatibility. I'd recommend using Javascript rather than Flash, because Javascript is build into nearly every browser and flash depends on a download. If you were using Joomla I would of recommended rokslideshow If your writing your own website I've done a quick google for JavaScript slideshow and found this article which might help you. Top 10 Javascript slideshows, carousels and sliders Hope this helps
Batman Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 I'd have to disagree there... flash might be an additional install but there is so much flash content online these days that everyone who wants it has already got it. What's more important imo is which one does the job better? Our javascript image scroller on the website was maxing out the cpu on a lot of machines (until it was taken down). I don't think you'd get that problem with a flash animation. Certainly not to the same extent. I'd go with flash if I were you.
Dodgex1 Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 s3Slider jQuery plugin I've used that, easy to mod aswell.

But when compatibility is important for a website, JavaScript is better.
Batman Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 Name ten people who never install flash for me and I'll believe you
Batman Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 That's only one person. Unless it's in a "yo momma's so fat she takes up ten seats at the cinema" sort of way?

smitho1990 Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 I hate to bump a relatively old post, but I'm sure I can help. You can download a free flash image show from here: JW Image Rotator You can view an example of this in the website I did for our school (I needed something exactly the same): Montgomery High School
