Evening all.

just to keep you all informed on the latest developments here at Sun Open Storage...

I have updated my VB simulator to the pre-release 2009.Q4 build and have just been messing around with it.

I know you'll badger me senseless on this but it is a great leap forward from the previous versions. Can't say too much on here but when it comes you're gonna love it!

Anyway, back to playing with zpools (note the "s") ;) :drunken_smilie:

Chat soon.

Regards,

Phil

Any update on the fletcher-4 hash collision issue?

Edit: Can you use different dedupe settings per share? Say, set /backups for delayed dedupe over the weekend once full backups have run, /Xen for delayed dedupe during the hours of darkness and maybe dedupe /lightweightusershare on the fly?

Based on what I heard, on-the-fly de-dupe will add some CPU overhead, but not so much as to make it unusable on most shares. Post-processing de-dupe will be coming later on, not sure if this is something that you'll apply globally as a one-off to a share, or whether you can schedule the post-processing to happy at night or on weekends.

So the de-dupe stuff is under NDA at the moment as it's 2009.Q4 build which is due by the end of the year at the latest. That means I cannot post any details on here (do I hear a panto "boo! Hiss"?)

More than happy to chat face to face or webex for those that have NDAs in place.

Cheers,

Phil
