webman Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 Stumbled across the Jack PC website this evening and thought it may be of some interest to you thin client fanatics here PC Powered by Ethernet Chip PC Technologies have produced a small PC that fits inside a wall socket. All you have on your desk is a Monitor, keyboard and mouse. The Jack-PC is a thin client running Microsoft Windows CE and it simply has all the processing power tucked away in a small package. Using a AU1550 Alchemy processor designed by AMD. the Jack-PC has outputs for USB, analog CRT/LCD up to 1280 x 1024, and DVI (digital Video Interface) up to 1600 x 1200 resolution. There is also full audio included. The Jack-PC is an ideal solution where space is tight and where conventional PC technology is inappropriate. Using CE as an operating system the Jack-PC runs with only 128M Bytes of DDR RAM and 64M bytes of Flash memory in the form of Disk on Chip
john Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 I have seen that somwhere on the old t'interweb before, seems a clever idea, very burgler proof
Geoff Posted September 27, 2006 Posted September 27, 2006 deja vu. I'm sure we've discussed this before..
webman Posted September 27, 2006 Author Posted September 27, 2006 Well if it has I apologise, I haven't seen it before on here
plexer Posted September 27, 2006 Posted September 27, 2006 Yup think they have I've seen them before anyway but they do look cool. Ben
GrumbleDook Posted September 27, 2006 Posted September 27, 2006 IIRC it was discussed by Ric, and someone looked into the costs of moving switches toe PoE enable switches and the Jack PCs themselves ... and it works out more expensive than buying one of the usual thin client boxes. Very nice though ... and once we have proved that Thin Client is viable here we may look at setting up a room with them. IIRC Linuxgirlie knows of somewhere down in Kent using them.
Ric_ Posted September 28, 2006 Posted September 28, 2006 It was someone else that suggested them and I decided to stick with my Linux-based HP TCs
Geoff Posted September 28, 2006 Posted September 28, 2006 Ah, It was Norphy on this thread (with the lead pipe). http://www.edugeek.net/index.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&p=25526#25526
