Has anyone got Webdav to work with Windows 2008 ?

i've followed instructions on here Installing and Configuring WebDAV on IIS 7 : WebDAV for IIS 7.0 : Publishing Content to Web Sites : The Official Microsoft IIS Site and got to the bit where I map a drive to http://localhost but I am a bit confused on how to get drives to be mapped.

I got this working on Server 2003 a few years ago but didn't implement it, 2008 seems to have a few lovely features that entices me to try it again.

Yeah - got it dead easy

One thing I found on one site but not another was that you must enable the Desktop Experience on the server before it will work

In addition, you must make sure that the home folder of the WebDAV site is on the local server (I haven't yet figured out how to make it work on remote servers - that's why I'm looking for WebDAV threads right now!)

net use x: http://localhost

You can replace the drive letter with any available, then go to My Computer and you should see a drive mapped to x: (might be called something like DavWWWRoot)

You can also use

net use * http://localhost

which will pick a free letter from the the top of the alphabet (e.g. Z)

Also be aware that *supposedly* Windows XP/Server 2003 need to map a subdirectory - meaning on XP, you would need to

net use * http://webdavserver/subfolder

though this can *supposedly* be a virtual directory
