SimpleSi Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 I remember one landing at my own school - they are a lot bigger than you think when they are close up to you! regards Simon
plexer Posted November 19, 2009 Posted November 19, 2009 cool. At a previous school one half term the local police chopper landed as they needed a break before a job. Air ambulance at current place for injured students.
Mako Posted November 19, 2009 Posted November 19, 2009 Pretty neat. Before I arrived here the school had Prince Charles land in a chopper. He was due at an event and the only safe place they could land was our school field, if I remember correctly. We have pics of staff meeting him. If only I was here for that...
localzuk Posted November 19, 2009 Posted November 19, 2009 Had a Lynx land in our tennis courts when I was at high school, and give trips up to some of the kids, and some form of destroyer moor up in the local harbour, with HMS Ark Royal out at sea nearby. That was fun.
Arcath Posted November 19, 2009 Posted November 19, 2009 the air ambulance landed in the school field when i was in primary school, was rather fun, got a really long break time so we could all watch it take off
TwoZeroAlpha Posted November 19, 2009 Posted November 19, 2009 Over here in Suffolk we occasionally (about once a week or so) get buzzed by apache helicopters doing low level stuff. The kids love it. Last night I watched two apaches doing touch and go landing training on a field in Colchester, they make one hell of a racket, but are very cool bits of kit.
CHR1S Posted November 19, 2009 Posted November 19, 2009 We get the Chinooks doing their thing dropping the wounded soldiers off at Selly Oak Hospital here in Brum.
plexer Posted November 19, 2009 Posted November 19, 2009 being in the middle of a battle training area we have lots of military activity, choppers tornados etc...
Arcath Posted November 19, 2009 Posted November 19, 2009 (edited) being in the middle of a battle training area is your school used as urban combat training? Edited November 19, 2009 by ChrisH
CAM Posted November 19, 2009 Posted November 19, 2009 Had Air Ambulance come down and land nearby, but it flew really really low and we were wondering what was going on due to only having skylights. Also had some light airplane going round, and round, and round, and round, and round.... He went on for over 30mins slowly ciircling the school and moving accross the campus as he circled before leaving. And can't forget the biplane doing loop the loops a few streets over from me at home. I see some weird stuff.
GHR Posted November 19, 2009 Posted November 19, 2009 we once had a tupolev bear land in our asembly hall when yr 8 were taking their SATs

garethEds Posted November 19, 2009 Posted November 19, 2009 A few years ago we had the stealth bombers fly over our house and the Amman Valley area. Not sure where they came from - but there were pictures in the paper. Twas during the day and the kids at a primary school where scared whitless from what the papers said. Where I live we saw one of the big yellow ones (not sure what they are called sorry) land in the rugby field about 200 metres from my house. We walked down to see them transferring a stretcher from the helicopter to a waiting ambulance which then had a police escort away from the scene. This was 2 in the morning and brought the whole street out. Another one - early one morning last Summer about 6:30 in the morning our house started shaking and the windows rattling. I cr4pped myself. Went down to the door to look out to see the emergency ambulance copter hovering about our house. Right above. No idea what he was doing - but it he was moving backwards and forwards above my house and the main road. Damn he was low and noisy. It was also windy. I'll never make an after dinner talker, GJE
muppet Posted November 19, 2009 Posted November 19, 2009 I remember getting in to work (May or June this year) only to find a hot air balloon on our sports field. Apparently it had had to make an emergency landing as it was heading into the flight path of RAF Brize Norton!!!! The bit that really made me smile was that it was sponsored by Triumph (not the motorbike company) and there was a very big picture of a woman in her bra on the side of it.......you should have seen them trying to deflate it as quickly as possible and get it folded up before the kids turned up!!!!
dave.81 Posted November 20, 2009 Posted November 20, 2009 We often get visits from the local Air/Sea Rescue seakings, it is a very strange sight seeing it land on the field just outside my office. Although we are still waiting for the downdraft to blow out the windows as a lot of them are very old. During rugby season we get almost weekly visits from the air ambulance too but thats what happens when the school is an hour away from hospital by road.
