Stop laptop monitor switching off

I know this is ridiculous....im having problems trying to stop the screen on a toshiba l300 going off.

 

This is the laptop of the teacher in a recent grrr post, it was the end of the world cus her laptop would go "off". So i have turned off every power setting i can find...yet the screen still goes off.....any ideas?

Dodgy bios settings? Or you could take the hdd out and put it another laptop, and then you would know if its the laptop, or just a setting?

Were the power settings altered within the user profile that had the issue?

ive got this on vsrious laptops in a school mandatory profile is set to never turn off screen etc but they still do and i cant see why. Tried ezgpo but it just came up with errors on the pcs (1st time id tried a newish version). aparently it started happening after a sims update but i cant confirm that

Is there any toshiba power saving software installed, maybe this could be the problem. I know if you haven't imaged their machines they come bundled with loads of software...Just a thought

Bios is very basic.

 

Ive changed the settings as local admin and domian. Staff dont have access as they are only a user...hmmmm, might try as power user..

There is, i removed it before i reimaged it and it still played up. Will try again though!

Most (all?) power settings are user specific so if you're changing them while logged on as admin, you're going to have no effect on what happens to the user.

that caffine sounds interesting...sorry if this is daft, but can it run in the background and not affect anything....

seems to just run in systray i doubt most staff would notice it unless you pointed it out to them

It's very unobtrusive. We've been using it for over a year and only one member of staff has noticed it.

most likely a very daft thought so appologies in advance but normally on laptops for the screen they have a tiny dip type switch that when knocked or pressed down puts the laptop to sleep or at least turns the screen off - Im guessing its nothing to do with that ?

ok, another daft question... there is a command line to stop the icon being displayed called -noicon suprisingly....how do i use it....

The only thing I can think of is that there is an exe in the windows or system32 directory that can use the noicon command as a switch ie

 

name_of_exe.exe -noicon

at a guess copy the exe somewhere onto the pc/network so for argument sake c:\windows then add a shortcut in all user startup that says c:\windows\caffine.exe - noicon

This is how I usually install caffeine:

 

1. Uncompress caffeine to its own directory under Program Files
   
2. Run caffeine
   
3. Use Startup Control Panel to add it to the HKLM start up
