Unfortunately, (even at 12pts) it makes the printout look grey. Cue lots of "the printer's running out of toner" reports from end-users and them printing it a second time in another font.

 

If you were nitpicky, you could also argue that displaying the extra white dots on screens (instead of black) uses more energy than a conventional solid black font.

 

So nil points.

Most modern LCD displays use more energy displaying black than white. CRT monitors are the opposite, so even displaying the font on screen could be determined to be more efficient...

For day to day student printing, I believe that it'll be ok.

 

Going to try it out when I get back to work, going to see if the Office 2007 adm/admx admin pack will allow me to set the default font for students (via a GPO).

I think the default font is set in normal.dot (or normal.dotx for 2007). I reckon you'll have to make a new normal template and do a find a replace on your server to distribute it to all the users profiles.
