I HATE WINDOZE 7!!!

Why won't the bl**dy thing install???

 

Microsoft support: "Format the hard drive"; "oops that didn't work, must be a hardware fault, you're on your own"

 

So thanks to the official MS support, I'm left with a computer with no OS on it!

Install Vista, no problem, but won't install 7, so it's not a hardware fault.

 

I've tried everything, even ACHI turned on in the BIOS, everything else off, still no windows 7....

Could it be a duff disk?

or have you installed it on another workstation/laptop?

Installed on a laptop

 

Same disc won't work on desktop. I'm using an official Windows 7 Ultimate disc.

how far through the install do you get? does it give an error?

Try updating the bios. When i installed Windows 7 Pro it would not recognise the disk. As soon as i upgraded the bios the disk was recognised and worked. This was on a mobo only 12 months old and not cheap model of board

I had a problem with Win7 - was because I had my monitor plugged in via DVI. Unplugged it and plugged it in via VGA and that worked.

 

I also read somewhere that it doesn't like second monitors plugged in during setup too.

I dont know if this will help but it could be RAM related...if you have over 2gig just unplug them for the install period.

 

This worked for me on Vista and now Windows 7...

I disabled EVERYTHING in the BIOS except the VIA chipset for the SATA, and after a number of attempts, and no reason why it would / wouldn't install, it did.

 

Don't know how or why it finally accepted defeat though!

So, now I have a 64 bit OS, if only I hadn't put it on an 80gb HD!

I've been getting peoples thoughts and opinions over a few forums, and VIA chipsets are a recurring theme between those having a negative experience so far. Not enough to say anything definitive, but I am certainly suggesting to people already that if theres any VIA in your system, avoid 7 for the time being.

I found that in the BIOS of new machines, I have to change the hard drive emulation to IDE or compatibale and NOT have it set to AHCI. Whenever I cant install, I change that and it works for me on these new HP models
