[fedora] Move to own partitions

Hey folks looking for some help here

 

I am looking at converting our web server from Fedora to Ubuntu

 

However..

 

When it was first installed, everything was put under the / partition ()

How can I move the folowing to their own partitions?

 

/usr

/home

/var/www

 

And then is it just a case of wipe / and install Ubuntu and a quick reconfiguration?

Probably easier to be honest.

Make the new partitions using fdisk, mount them as something normal (/mnt/blah) then copy all the data over, remember which is which, and then choose them when you're reinstalling.

 

That is assuming you have spare space on the disk with which to do the job?

What - the wipe/reinstall? Yeah it may be easier - but with the entire school website, and moodle, and various other stuff - then its not an option im afraid

 

I need to keep the data - and reconfigure the necessary config's

Sorry I misread there, thought you'd literally just installed it.

 

You can resize the partitions based upon what localzuk has said.

Seems like abit of a headache trying to do it that way.

 

Its not too difficult to rsync all the website stuff to a backup server and export the mysql database, then put it all back into the new install.

 

Just out of curiosity, why do you want to move from Fedora to Ubuntu when you've got it all setup already?

This is what I did in the end

successfully restored joomla, WHD and Moodle this way, though GLPI seems to be struggling (all pages are blank!)

 

Moving to ubuntu cos my fedora install is struggling now and tbh, i prefer ubuntu now lol

Worth checking the Apache accesslog/errorlog if this still happens over on ubuntu.

Sorted this - deleting the config/config_db.php forces the installer to re-run and you can update the installation again..

 

All now seems to be working - but time will tell really...
