When a member of the admin staff are trying to print from nova to a Kyocera FS 3900DN it doesnt want to print but if they print to any other printer it happily prints. This is happening on all machines when printing to a Kyocera FS 3900DN. Has anyone come across anything like this? Thanks
vikpaw Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 Printers can often cause headaches. Some thoughts: What happens? Do you receive an error or is the output garbled? Is the Kyocera set as default? Can the users print from e.g. Word to the Kyocera? Have you tested printing as the first task from Nova straight after a reboot? Have you tried using PCL5 drivers? The answers may help you. Usually when something like this happens, you need to change the printer.
Jamo Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 I believe NOVA has some issues with PCL6 drivers from printers. Try a PCL 5e driver for the same printer and see if it still works. We had a similar issue but becuase the default printer was PCL6 it caused the whole program to crash!
mb2k01 Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 +1 to Jamo. We use a lot of Konica Minolta printers here and have similar problems. Some of the newer printers don't have PCL5 drivers available which causes a lot more problems. We've also found for some modules (Exams and Attendance off the top of my head) that we've had to install the printers locally instead of networked. Very annoying!
darbyshire Posted October 19, 2009 Author Posted October 19, 2009 I have had another look and the user can print timetables doing file > print. But when they want to print off reports file > Print is grayed out and when they use quick print it doesnt do anything
bandgeekmafia78 Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 I would agree with the comments regarding PCL5/6 printer issues. Seen this myself a few months ago and turned out I needed a PCL5 driver.

Jamo Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 Bit confused here: right click the printer in question, goto properties, Advanced, and click new driver and point it towards the PCL5e .INF file which you will need to download from the Konica Minolta site if available.
darbyshire Posted October 19, 2009 Author Posted October 19, 2009 i can't seem to find the driver for PCL5e yet it says it can. I have even rang up the kyocera support and they said it isnt a driver.

matt40k Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 The Nova-T timetabling printing will be put into SIMS .net, hopefully by the Spring release (if I remember correctly). It doesn't need the SQL 2008 Reporting Engine, so one less worry. Also it will, drum roll please, have 64bit support!! From what I saw it looks pretty good, pretty much the same thing but with more options such changing the font and the size. FMS should also allow you to export to Excel, so hopefully, no more stupid Delphi printing problems!! YaY... now where is my time machine?
Richbrown Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 Hi there how is the printer connected ? If its local via usb then have you tried capturing the LPT port ? Simple dos script does the job for me if its something you would like to try let me know and I will post the info.
