SIMS will not load on Server 2008 64bit

I am trying to load SIMS.net on a 2008 64 bit terminal server and receive the following error:

 

SIMS installer was unable to open the N:\WINDOWS\sims.ini file

 

I have never been asked this before.

 

Anyone seen this before?

No, the N drive is the mapped drive for the user. I don't know why it's asking for that?

Hmmm.... From Capita Supportnet "Hardware requirements"

 

Operating System—Windows Server 2003 (SP2 and above) and Windows Server 2008. We support both 32 bit and 64 bit versions of these operating systems for server use. We also support Microsoft Windows XP Pro (SP2 and above) 32 bit only.

 

Just wondering from that whether it's ok to have 64 bit on the workstations (which is what you've effectively got if it's a 64 bit TS)

I've just done this and it seems to of worked. But I receive a message informing me that it can't be upgraded, etc!!!

C:\Program Files (X86) - SIMS automatically loaded it to there!

Are you running it with elevated privileges? You will need to map the drive elevated too unless you use the EnableLinkedConnections setting (if it still exists in 7, I'm using it in vista)

Try this? edit as brackets suggest.

Have you run SIMSperm.bat on the offending machine, this sets all of the relevant permissions needed for the logged in user to run the upgrade.

Ah terminal server may be a bit different, you can ignore my previous post then as on server I believe it already runs the administrator user with the linked connections.

 

It's probably a TS permission issue. I think I must have been reading the sims on Win 7 before this thread

I ran accross this and it was due to an incomplete installation. Check your SIMS directories and see if you if you have a temp directory from an installation if so it may be worth moving the temp install folder somewhere and trying the install again.
