RichB Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 afternoon everyone, have installed another screen on my pc... the computer knows its there..... and i can move my mouse over to the other screen just nothing on the screen its blank! im using a vga to dvi connector (on the screen that will not work) into the geforce 8400gs graphics card on a hp dc5800! the monitor is a hp L1908w widescreen any help would be great!

Arcath Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 when you say you can put the mouse pointer on that side, do you get your wall paper? if so its working fine just drag a window across to the other monitor

RichB Posted October 2, 2009 Author Posted October 2, 2009 i have a splitter from my graphics card one side of it going to the HP monitor with a dvi connection on it so straight in, the other side goes into a dvi to vga converter then into the monitor. Nvida and windows detects the monitor but i cannot get any output on it, the monitor is not broken ive tested that ect Running the latest version of the software and everything!
Guest Guest Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 What type of DVI is it? Have a loko on wikipedia. DVI-D is digital only so will not work through VGA (ie analogue)
plexer Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 A fully connected dvi output connector on a pc/gfx card will support an analogue d-sub vga output as the pins are there. Ben

Sounds to me you're in extended desktop mode, whereas I suspect you want clone mode. If you get to Display Properties, then click Advanced, somewhere here you'll find reference to clone mode.
timzim Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 If OP's installed another screen on his desktop why would he want clone mode? Surely he wants extended desktop mode? Clone mode will just make him see double (which I'm currently doing with just one monitor... )
jamin100 Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 if your PC has onboard VGA as well as a graphics card try turning the onboard VGA off in the BIOS.
