Edu-IT Posted September 30, 2009 Posted September 30, 2009 I've just packaged Scratch 1.4 but I see that it allows access to all the drives which we would otherwise hide. There is a network configurable option, VisibleDrives:N:/, which can be added to the Scratch.ini but how would I then get this out to all machines? Thanks in advance!
sparkeh Posted September 30, 2009 Posted September 30, 2009 Could you create a package to roll out the new .ini?
Butuz Posted September 30, 2009 Posted September 30, 2009 Not on CC4 myself but I would assume that you could simply edit the Scratch.ini in the package on the server's and then de allocate and re allocate the package so that alll workstations get the new .ini? Butuz

Butuz Yeah could do that I think. I don't know what long it takes to deploy Scratch so replacing the .ini files could be quicker. Possibly? Never done that though. Ok first up find the folder structure to where the .ini file is. On a clean machine take an initial scan Recreate the folder structure with the .ini in it Take second scan to create a package Allocate and all the station ini files are replaced
bossman Posted September 30, 2009 Posted September 30, 2009 Have just downloaded this and used a universal extracter on the exe file which has created a dir which can then be put on P:Public (RM CC3), then the ini file can be altered (see attached document) create a path rule and application rule in the mmc this works a treat. has Taken best part of 5 mins.Network Installation and Customization Scratch.doc 1
reggiep Posted September 30, 2009 Posted September 30, 2009 (edited) Have just downloaded this and used a universal extracter on the exe file which has created a dir which can then be put on P:Public Could you explain more what the universal extractor is? I fancy putting scratch on a public drive but not sure how to extract! Thanks Edited September 30, 2009 by reggiep
Edu-IT Posted September 30, 2009 Author Posted September 30, 2009 I don't know what long it takes to deploy Scratch Not long at all. Let me see if I can edit the INI on the server and see if it'll deploy that, if not, the P:/ sound a good solution.
Edu-IT Posted September 30, 2009 Author Posted September 30, 2009 Okay, editing the .ini on the build machine then packaging it again doesn't work. I can only assume that the RM Blueprint I am using has the default .ini already loaded in somewhere. So the option is to either run it from a share or package it without the Blueprint being used. It's a simple program, it seems, so that shouldn't be too difficult to do using the WinInstall program.
Butuz Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009 If it can be run from the P Drive that would be easiest I recon mate. Butuz
bossman Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009 @reggiep: It's a tool for extracting files from EXEs and MSIs you can download the latest version 1.6 from here. Be made aware it will only work for those that have been compiled properly. Universal Extractor | LegRoom.net Have fun 1
webman Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009 (edited) If it's of any use, we just wrapped the EXE up in a container that runs it silently and copies over an updated .INI file at install time. Download our CC3 package (without the Scratch exe) and drop it into your Packages folder. Drop in your Scratch installer executable. Edit INI file as appropriate for your network Edit install.cmd and: a) change the UNC path to your packages folder, b) make sure the scratch exe name is correct. Update package list via RMMC. Allocate. Edited October 1, 2009 by webman 1
cookie_monster Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009 We have Scratch 1.4 running from a UNC path I didn't install anything on the clients, the staff and a few students seem to be using it without issue. Our config file looks like this: [Global] DeferUpdate=1 ShowConsole=0 DynamicConsole=0 ReduceCPUUsage=0 ReduceCPUInBackground=0 3ButtonMouse=0 1ButtonMouse=0 UseDirectSound=1 PriorityBoost=1 B3DXUsesOpenGL=1 CaseSensitiveFileMode=0 EnableAltF4Quit=0 HOME=U: VisibleDrives=R:,S:,U:,D:,E:,F: 2
bossman Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009 @cookie_monster: That's what I had mentioned in my previous post P:Public is the UNC path on RMCC3.
cookie_monster Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009 That's what I had mentioned in my previous post P:Public is the UNC path on RMCC3 We'll call it a confirmation that it works then

Edu-IT Posted October 1, 2009 Author Posted October 1, 2009 Okay, so next problemo. I've set the home drive to N:\, which is where My Documents goes, but this isn't actually the users My Documents so when they save I've got no idea where it's saving. What do I do here, anyone done it?
russdev Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009 Tip here it is saving to local user profile directory somewhere we found you had to physical go to N drive and save it. Russ
cookie_monster Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 I've set the home drive to N:\, which is where My Documents goes, but this isn't actually the users My Documents Can you clarify that are the users My Docs there or not? I found that not putting a \ on the end of the path worked e.g HOME=U: the program automatically creates a folder called "Scratch Projects" in that location so look for that.
Edu-IT Posted October 2, 2009 Author Posted October 2, 2009 When I logon locally to the machine, browse through documents and settings then look for the username of the person and go into there, I can see it in the My Documents there but when they're logged in and click My Documents, it's not there. It's saving to the local profile as Russ pointed out. I just know people are going to save to this area instead of their own My Documents and wonder where their files are. Hmm.
cookie_monster Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 Ah are you using folder redirection of My Docs to a share, is there no mapped drive to their work folders I thought you said it was N:?
Edu-IT Posted October 2, 2009 Author Posted October 2, 2009 I'm confused, it's too early! When I click 'My Documents' it goes to N:\ but strangely navigating directly to N:\ is disallowed! Something odd there.
cookie_monster Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 Yes if you set the path to N: in the Scratch config file but the user can't access it then there's your problem. I'd investigate why the user can't access the N: drive. Are you navigating to N: in My Computer or typing it into the address bar? Typing it into the address bar doesn't always work on locked down accounts.
Edu-IT Posted October 2, 2009 Author Posted October 2, 2009 Address bar. Going to N: in my computer works fine.
cookie_monster Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 Ok so if you open N: it goes straight into the users My Docs folder or is the My Docs folder another level down? If it goes straight to the My Docs folder and still doesn't work do you definatly have HOME=U: set not HOME=U:\ in the scratch config.
