I've just been told that I have an hour to knock up a quick guide to VLE's and Moodle in an hour!

We are a primary and our SLT have no clue what a VLE is or can do..

The heads had some info from LEA about moodle and want me to tell them more in a SLT meeting in an hour . . .

So really quickly . . .

VLE's and Moodle - what do i tell them?

How can this help teachers in a primary?

I'm guessing this is really only going to be KS2 . .

Any help appreciated!

Well learning platforms are there to give access to students wherever they may be so it can be a really useful resource for homeworks etc

It also allows teachers to direct students to resources rather than spending hours a year searching the internet for the resource they require.

Theres many more features that it can be useful for but i'm a bit short on time with my own VLE work, feel free to PM me if you need any further information as I do work in primary schools too. Although i can't guarantee a response today.

Basic idea of what a VLE is:

A VLE is a software package designed using sound pedagogical principles, to help educators create effective online learning communities.

It can scale from a single-teacher site to a 50,000-student University.

A virtual learning environment (VLE) is designed to support teaching and learning in an educational setting. A VLE will normally work over the Internet and provide a collection of tools such as those for assessment (particularly of types that can be marked automatically, such as multiple choice), communication, uploading of content, return of students work, peer assessment, administration of student groups, collecting and organising student grades, questionnaires, tracking tools, and similar. New features in these systems include wikis, blogs and RSS.

While originally created for distance education, VLEs are now most often used to supplement the face-2-face classroom, commonly known as Blended Learning.

There are some vid clips on youtube and teachersTV about VLEs and Moodle

Tomaz is an educator in Austrailia.

His blog site on Moodle and other educational matters is fantastic.

Just look at what his students created as an online magazine all about Moodle and how it is used.

My first post is a 'hello' post, so I can add the URL link in the next one (as per forum rules)
