turn off the right click on the mouse

Hello

I work with special needs students and would really like to be able to turn off the right click on the mouse so that if it is accidently clicked then nothing would happen.

 

No server, winXP

Sorry you sa y no server, do you mean the PC is a Windows XP Standalone?

 

Simple is to bluetack the thing up so it cant be pressed, the right answer is probably to disable it somewhere in CP.

1. Open up the "run" command (if it is disabled use 'Windows Key' + R)

 

2. Type in "regedit" but without the quotations. Then push enter.

 

3. Navigate to: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]

 

4. Look for the value name "NoViewContextMenu" (if no such value exists, then just go ahead and create it)

 

5. Make sure the type is REG_DWORD

 

6. Type in a 0 to disable right clicking and a 1 to enable right clicking.

 

7. Restart your computer after the modification

 

-- Make a Backup of the Registry First!

 

You could put that into a Scipt too make it easier if you have to do it on many computers

 

or you could just stick the right click button down

I know you prefer a free solution, but I thought I'd mention this anyway.

 

I work at an SEN primary and we use a product called "Mouser" from SEMERC which is basically a PS/2 device that sits between the mouse and the PC with buttons on that enable you to turn right and left click on or off which is much better than an "all or nothing solution" and is easy for staff to use as well.

Unfortunately they seem to have discontinued the line which is a shame because they are one of the most popular devices in school.

 

It would be worth sending an email explaining your issue to the people at Inclusive Technology and see if they have a solution.
