mossj Posted September 19, 2009 Posted September 19, 2009 Had my 21st birthday last month, and my parents got me a personalized number plate, I like it BUT you need to have a 04 or newer car to use it Don't really plan to buy a 04 car so will have to sell it somewhere down the line.... So how much do you think the numberplate is worth now? and would you sell it now or keep it in the hope it would go up in value? The numberplate is "BL04 GER"

Another one of my pet hates, the obfustication of numbers / letters on number plates to make it look like something else, or just plain hide the registration. There are strict standards about how your number plate should be set out, at what distance it should be visible from etc ... If you don't clean your number plate so it is dirty and obscured #fail If you intentionally add items to the number plate which effectively change the lettering (the infamous black screw cover between 1 and 1 to get H as an example) #fail If you place a cover over the plate to restrict visibility from certain angles (eg to make it difficult for speed cameras to read the plate due to how they are angled) #fail If you vary the style of presentation or writing on the number plate to follow a 'style' #fail Get caught speeding with any of the above and you can get a fixed penalty as well as instructions to rectify. Failure to rectify earns you points or even a disqualification if it means that you have done it intentionally to prevent those in authority identifying you ... Please, just don't do it. 1

Altered plates are one of my pet hates too - italicised letters make me mad in particular.
john Posted September 19, 2009 Posted September 19, 2009 Agree on dodgy plate annoyances, but seems the police don't care around here sooo many have them but they never get stopped or anything, and there must be tonnes of dodgy MOT stations as well Very sad. As for the plate, keep it on retention you will get a car new enough in a few years time. I regretted not buying the plate I wanted when they came avaliable as I thought i'd never have a car new enough, my current car is only 2 years too old VS 15 which was the one I had at the time and its only 3 years ago I saw it so not that much further in time.

Seeing as it was a gift from the parents they may be offended if you promptly sell it! It costs £25 a year to retain it unallocated to a car, it probably won't be long before you have a car new enough to put it on, unless of course you like high performance expensive cars:D

It's not like the person driving behind you is going to think "Mama! Look! Wow hes ace look at that number plate!! I wanna be just like him!!". They will probably think you are some moron boy racer wannabe. Why not sew on some text on all of the back of your work shirts or jumpers? Bet half of you who have these don't even wash the car often. Saddddddddd!
