Hi all,

We have a 2008 SP1 32bit edition as a member server on a 2003 network. We ave recently seen that at random times the shares (that are shared on the 2008 box) would be lost and clients (windows xp) would freeze up.

I have done some research and it looks like an issue with symantec antivirus and some other AV vendors as well.

The problem will be cured temoporarely by rebooting the server but will crop up again. We have Symantec Anti-Virus Corporate edition v10.2 and after removing this the situation is stable again.

Just wondering if others have had this issue. Looking on the net there seems to be fair amount of people who are having the issue even on SP2 and 64bit versions of server 2008.

Release notes for Symantec AntiVirus 10.2 Client for Vista and Windows Server 2008

Server 2008 Share Keeps Going Offline

Looks like there is an update to the AV software to fix the issue, but i would like to know if this is happening to anyone else.

Thanks,

Ash.

Yes, we have had this problem since yesterday on our new SIMS server.

We are using Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.0.4, I will try removing this and see if it helps.

Restarting my SIMS server every hour is becoming a pain!

any more on this im having the same problem pls help

Hiya,

If you have the symantec antivirus coprorate editon then you need to have v10.2.3.3000 or above to make auto protect work correctly.

If you have the endpoint protection then you need Endpoint 11 MP4, MR2 or above for it to correctly work with server 2008.

The above assumes you have symantec installed. If this is happening with any other vendors then you need to contact them.
