ISA Server and Real Player

We're having real trouble (haha) getting Real Player to function, i.e. streaming BBC footage, etc.

Teachers are always keen to use BBC footage for various subjects and I've been trying to get it working for a while.

I've instructed ISA Server to allow all the Real protocols but it's still not working.

Is there something else I should be allowing?

Yes, everything is set up, as far as I can tell, in both Real Player and ISA Server. I've set the proxy in Real Player to take it from IE (which is obviously the ISA Server) but it still won't let it through.

Is it just the BBC that fails or other RTSP sites as well?

 

Have you tried telneting to the stream servers on the RTSP port?

 

What do the ISA logs say?

Firewall client installed on the machine? Might help....

Yes, someone else with this issue! I have found putting the firewall client on seems to let it work better with ISA, thats what I do on my machine as I want to be able to get in and around better but you don't want the Firewall client on the classroom machines as it seems to let them go a bit more wild with streaming stuff off websites.

 

But the Beeb is quite bad, I have Real stuff that works well off others site just not the Beebs so its a mystery and they refuse to help us they say all information on the matter is confidential and they cannot help us so its a PITA! So I have given over now, but you can download stuff a bit easier from them now so that is a way round it you download the files and put them on the system for them to use perhaps. But I haven't checked if the gateway makes a difference, I don't think we have the gateway setup at work but I cannot remember so I will have to look and see.

Ive also been having this problem for a long time (well, this is the first time Ive tried to solve it since its becoming a problem now that bbc's content is improving)

 

Ive tried adding unrestricted anonymous access to bbc's ip's/name's but still no joy - microsoft suggest (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/288734)adding anonymous access for a client address set - which would make logging users access to other inappropriate sites a nightmare. Dont quite understand why anonymous access based on client address sets is supposed to work but based on a particular website address it doesnt.

 

As above, I dont want to install the firewall client on the student pcs - this doesnt even work 100% of the time as I use it on my pc.

Now looking to use an RTSP proxy running on ISA server with a registry fix for the proxy address to the students pcs.

 

Any recommendations? Or other ISA fixes to try?

Its good to see the bbc finally using flash embedded video now, after that ridiculous long term contract they signed with real.com is finally up.
