I have a teacher that purchased a projection device that requires S-video. A projector in the room in connected to the PC, but the PC itself has no s-video. I was thinking I could get an S-video to USB cable.

I suppose my question would be, can you forsee an issue with this? If not any ideas what software I could use to display the incoming feed from the projection device?

Forgive me If I've overlooked something here but does the projector not have an s-video or composite input that you could connect the device directly to?

Thanks for the reply.. The projector does, however it's quite far away. I was also hoping the teacher would be able to toggle for example between Google.com and the projection device.

Cheaper and easier to run a long S-video connector from the projector down to the device just like the PC is wired now and get the teacher to use the projector remote to switch inputs. This has the added benifit of not needing the laptop to be plugged in or turned on to use the other projection device and will be a lot simpler in the long run.

If you are worried about a remote then if the projector has a serial controller port on it there are products avalible that will let you hardwire a remote in.

You can easily buy 50ft worth of S-video cable for around £10-£15 tops. This would be the best solution, so the teacher just changes from VGA to S-Video using the Projector remote control.

synack how much is one of those basic controllers?

Good question, I have been looking for prices on them but have only found them stocked by installers with no avalible pricing on their sites. The most local places to you to contact would be:

Meritec - Home

Premier AV

both in Ireland and from the distributers list

The only one I have been able to find a price on for the moment in NZ is the top of the line one which has a little LCD in it at NZ$405 = 165.233 GBP. Data Projector Controller

Given the complexity difference and the fact that they may have a NZ premium on that price I imagine that it would be half that cost or maybe a little cheaper for the really simple one. Maybe 85 GPB or something.
