Don__1 Posted August 15, 2009 Posted August 15, 2009 I know we are in the middle of holiday season but has anyone installed Lanview 4 yet? I'm not back at school until September so won't be able to install and test in a working enviroment until then. Maybe help others out here with any issues you find or tips to make using it easier.
FN-GM Posted August 15, 2009 Posted August 15, 2009 I thought development on LanView had stopped this year at version 3
russdev Posted August 15, 2009 Posted August 15, 2009 No quite true lanview 4 was released to people who donated yesterday. Kevin always said he would continue to write version 4 (but no support etc) to say thanks to people who donated etc. Russ
StewartKnight Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 LanView was well worth investing in, I didn't, but then, I'm not an ICT technician at the moment!
cookie_monster Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 Was it decided if the source would be released so it could be supported?
madcyryl Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 I didnt receive my email from them (i donated) wonder if they are staggering the emails?
MikeW Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 Got my email on Saturday, only issue the new LanView client is an .exe not an .msi .
nklassen Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 @MikeW There is an /extract:[path] option for the EXE that extracts the MSI version of the client installer. I have deployed the extracted MSI with AD to some clients and the installation appears to have worked correctly. 1
russdev Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 Kevin has said if not got the email then give him and a buzz at [email protected] and he will check the paypal records etc Russ
Silvor Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 Yes, please - if you did donate and have not received an email; either contact myself or Kevin and we will sort this.
jamin100 Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 i just cant get it to work  Lanview 3 was great but 4 keeps saying that the ultra vnc password is wrong.
Don__1 Posted September 2, 2009 Author Posted September 2, 2009 The password used in Lanview4 is not the same as the password used in TightVNC(Lanview3). See the other recent Lanview4 thread. http://www.edugeek.net/forums/network-classroom-management/40471-lanview-4-help.html
cromertech Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 I have installed lanview4 server and it's working fine with most of the client computers but is there any way of customising the install to run vnc on a different port. I have ITalc installed in the student computer suites as many of the teachers use it and in these rooms the computers complain that vnc is already running. I have tried changing the .ini file in the ultravnc folder but it only seems to work for the app not the service. Any help on where i can change the port for the service greatly received. Thanks
Don__1 Posted October 15, 2009 Author Posted October 15, 2009 Been using Lanview 4 for a while and have noticed that the Tools, i.e. Scandisk and Checkdisk don't appear to run on the client PC's when told to do so. Was fine with Lanview3. Also, the schedules aren't automatically applied at Lanview4 server startup. Seems like I have to alter an existing schedule item before the 'schedule' is enabled. Anyone any ideas?
