FN-GM Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 Just seen on the news the Lockerbie Bomber is to be released! I think someone who carried out mass murder kill 270 should lever be let out even if he is ill. He should have a life sentance for each person he murdered. What do you think?
MatthewL Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 No way should be be released. Lock him up for ever.
srochford Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 The man appears to be in the terminal stages of cancer so it looks unlikely that he'll spend much more time in jail whether he's freed or just dies. Much more important, however, is the probability that he's not guilty - he was convicted just so that we could close the case and tidy everything up. There are way too many implausible "facts" in the evidence that was presented at his trial.
somabc Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 (edited) No way should be be released. Lock him up for ever. If you think he was guilty I have a bridge that I want to sell you. Libya had to provide someone to improve relations with the west so they sent someone over to face trial. If you wanted to try those responsible you would be better to start with Gaddafi but of course as these pictures show that will never happen. leco Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 I was about to post something similar. All I can really say about the man that was convicted is that his family must have been very well taken care of. Unlike the families of those both in the 'plane and on the ground. Take note of the look on most of the faces in the photo's - do they look happy to be shaking his hand - I think not.
somabc Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 Take note of the look on most of the faces in the photo's - do they look happy to be shaking his hand - I think not. Strangely (or not) unlike all the others Blair looks really happy and Gaddafi does not
Gatt Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 This seems to be becoming a bit of a habit now - First Ronnie Biggs now Al Mag-whateverits-hi Message: Get Out Of Jail if you have a serious illness!
apoth0r Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 Human rights? What about all the human rights of the people that were murdered. For taking away someones human right to live, they should defer their own. 1

And don't get me started on rules of engagement ....

leco Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 The armed forces is another tale. This is terrorism One country's (group's) terrorism may be another's war. Don't get me wrong, I am by no means condoning the destruction of life, I think it is wrong by any method. I just think that one country's set of "rules" may or may not be the same as another's.
AyatollahPies Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 This seems to be becoming a bit of a habit now - First Ronnie Biggs now Al Mag-whateverits-hi Message: Get Out Of Jail if you have a serious illness! Steal from the state as Ronnie Biggs did and they will make an example of you. Straw only released him to bury bad news about the economy. (Less than a month after refusing to release him) Murder people and you get a slap on the wrist these days.
somabc Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 Best Picture! http://www.vanityfair.com/images/politics/2009/08/qaddafi-0908-ps01.jpg
localzuk Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 The guy in prison is so obviously a scapegoat it is unbelievable. Also, one thing to note - dictators seem to have style and presence on their side. Look at photos of Hitler, Stalin, Hussein, Mugabe and others - they're all snappy dressers and are all good in a PR spot. (NOTE: This doesn't mean I like their policies or behaviour).
