staff intranet

I'm on with the staff intranet now that I've gone as far as possible with the 'Learningwall'

 

I'm not sure what would go on to the staff intranet so I was looking for ideas before I go to far with it.

 

So far I have the following in mind

 

policies

procedures

teaching resources

forms

 

thats all I can think of

 

any ideas or comments?

How to's for common problems? E.g. projector plugging in, using email, any common asked questions from the staff.

Heres ours, revamped it recently, nice and simple to use.

 

 

The massages section is our school bulletin which admin input the messages using a back end DB.

kearton, I think you're getting mixed up a bit - it was amvc who posted their intranet which has ink/toner availability, which I myself was curious about too; I don't see why staff need to know - you should be competant enough to always have supplies when needed

 

Liking the design there though webman - I have recently redesigned our intranet to something reasonably straightforward to navigate with (with the usual most used links and search engines) - I like the idea of the internal phone numbers electronically though, and I might steal that idea from you for ourself (we have ours printed currently and everyone gets a hard copy)! Do staff need to login separately or does it tie in with AD to auto detect their status and display the necessary bits?

@kearton: dgsmith is correct - it's not me who does a Ink/Toner thing

 

@dgsmith: Thanks. It's coded in ASP and runs under IIS; so it all ties in with users' credentials. In fact, boxes and links are dependent on the staff/student user type distinction. It was for this reason I ( begrudgingly ) used ASP/IIS. If integrated NTLM auth worked with Apache on a Linux server correctly and predictably, this would definitely be PHP.

 

The phone search is nifty Ajax "live-search" fanciness, with data coming from an Access DB.

 

If I get any time, I'll package it all up and stick it on my website as GPL if it happens to be of any use to anyone.

It simply gives the price and availability for departments printers (not curriculem) as we recently implemented a system where they pay for thier own Runs on a simple access DB.

Im putting a tutorial togeather this weekend on how to setup iis with mysql and my php. would this be of use to you?

I think that looks fine, maybe the school logo or part of the school logo on the left hand side.

Have you considered using Windows Sharepoint Services? It is free with Server 2003 and saves the hassle of creating something from scratch, it is also easy to configure and supportable since it's a Microsoft product.
