Windows 7 (and Windows Server) briefing at Microsoft on 21st August (free, of course)

Hi All,

 

A quick note to pass on details of the event we're hosting at the Microsoft campus in Reading on 21st August. Maybe this shows "there is such a thing as a free lunch.

 

It's a Windows 7 workshop, where you’ll have the chance to hear about Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 and to explore what they mean for education. The agenda includes:

- James O’Neill from our Developer and Platform Evangelist team

- Richard Lane, one of our Account Technology Specialists

- Gareth Hall, Windos Server 2008 R2 product manager for the UK

- Asif Jinnah, who runs the Microsoft IT systems in the UK (he'll talk about what we've done internally)

- Alan Richards (fellow EduGeeker who's rolling out this summer)

- Dave Coleman (ditto!)

 

We aim to explore how the new products launched this year can help you to streamline your ICT infrastructure and improve the ICT management and user experience. With Windows 7 available to existing School Agreement customers from the end of this week, and Windows Server 2008 R2 available from the 19th August, it seems like the perfect time to take a day out of school to understand how it fits into your future plans.

 

There are already a number of schools planning to implement Windows 7 this summer, and so we hope to make the day as interactive as possible, with plenty of time for discussion with your peers from other schools, to compare notes and experiences (there will be schools attending who’ll have implemented Windows 7 by the 21st, so hopefully they’ll have practical advice for us all!)

 

To allow for those making longer journeys, we’ll start at 10am and finish by 3pm.

Ooh, this is quite exciting. After following your blog for so long (and laughing at it so much), does this finally mean that I'm going to be in a position to peer through the anonymity-shield?

I think I'd better keep it to myself though.

Can't stay overnight unfortunately - I've got to get to Aldershot sometime after the MS event. Would be interested in staying for a few more hours if there's a gathering of fellow Edugeek members however

For anyone looking for accommodation who is NOT driving, I'd recommend the Novotel Reading. It's a 4* hotel a few minutes walk from the train station, and there is a free shuttle bus from the station to Microsoft's offices at Thames Valley Park. If you don't mind sharing a twin room the prices are very reasonable.

 

For those driving, take your pick of any hotel outside the town centre!

I vote for this in Manchester, myself and DB went to one that was run on Server 2008 in the Odeon in The Print Works in Manchester and it was very well attended and a great event, so shame its down in Reading, don't think I can squeeze that day off, well I will have to play diary juggle but think I am on lock and unlock duty that day so as a result no me at work = no access to the place

Thanks dude. I'll book Ric and myself in there for Thursday\Friday. If ayone wants to overnight I'd be perfectly willing for EduGeek to pay for 2 twin rooms for our members on Friday night if anyone want to bend Ric and my ear for a few hours over drinks and a meal.

The further away people come from the more chance they have of getting a bed sounds like a fair way of doing it.
