How can i do this withought resetting that users password and logging on as them? can i get into the mail box through exchange?
mossj Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 (edited) If you have OWA log in as yourself then when your in your inbox, delete your name from the url and put in theres. If you have the right permissions it should take you to there inbox. e.g http://webmail.ashlawn.org.uk/exchange/myusername -> http://webmail.ashlawn.org.uk/exchange/thereusername OR Open outlook goto file then open, then other users foldern type in there username and click ok. OR You can use the Exchange System Manager, Message tracking Center (under tools > Monitoring and Status) then add the user as recipient or sender. What give a easy to read way of doing it but should bring something up. Or If you just want to see some details (Last logged on by, size (kb), total items, last logon time, last logoff time) then you can open exchange system manager, go to admin groups, first admin group, servers, *the server*, *the storage box*, mailboxes. You can try (depending on the current mailbox permissions) logging into owa as the domain administrator then changing the address to the users mailbox name, this will use the domain admin account details to login to the account. It may not work but I use it here (when appropriate) 1

Neither of those worked, our owa doesnt display the username in the address bar and when trying to add the inboax in outlook it errors saying it cannot locate it
WOW_freak Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 Sometimes the open other users mailbox doesnt work for me and I have to do the following : Goto tools Goto Account settings Select your mailbox Click on change Click on more settings Click on the advanced tab Click on Add next to open these additional mailboxes Type the name off the account. This will then add their mailbox underneath yours. This will only work if you have permission to see that users mailbox. Not sure why I have to go through it that way sometimes but I do 1

strawberry Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 you'll need to make sure you have the relevant permissions to view the mailbox. are you logged in as domain admin?

Willott Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 If you don't have locally hosted exchange (or you don't have full control), contact your providers support team to give you access. If you do have full control, then the above suggestions should work perfectly (they always did when I worked with 2003). You can give any user full access to any other user's mailbox. There should be an Exchange Administrators group on your AD make sure you are in that. By full access do you mean you want to effectively "be" that person - send/receive as them etc or do you just want to see the contents and read their mailbox?

Cheers Will This may sound odd... but technet is not available within our network, the NM before he went off sick was puzzled as to why.. By full access do you mean you want to effectively "be" that person - send/receive as them etc or do you just want to see the contents and read their mailbox? i cant go into detail in a public forum but yes i need full access to said mailbox

Here's the info: Only an administrator can grant full access to another user's mailbox, by using Active Directory Users and Computers. To give someone access to another users mailbox, you must have the appropriate permissions to modify user objects in Active Directory. For more information about these permissions, see Windows Help. Procedure To give a user full access to another user's mailbox 1. In Active Directory Users and Computers, right-click the organization domain name, point to View, and then click Advanced Features. 2. Click the Users container or the organizational unit where the user is located. 3. Right-click the user account, and then click Properties. 4. Click Exchange Advanced, and then click Mailbox Rights. 5. Click Add to add a user to the list of users that are allowed to access this mailbox. 6. Excellent thank you, ive now done that and have added myself permissions to it, but again when i try to open a users inbox via outlook, i select the account from the list and click ok it still says "unable to access the folder. the inbox cannot be found"
