geekthattweaks Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 Hello all. I have set up a fog server with stunning results but I have two IT suites who won't register thus stopping imaging. One it freezes after I put in a password for full registration the other won't load up the fog boot screen. Both have boot and wake from lan on. Ethernet is first in the boot order. chinesewhispers Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 I think this method removes password protection, but it doesn't present an option list to people, just a prompt for 3 seconds which needs correct input to function. We had to do this to get our Toshiba Satellite Pro A200 laptops to work properly.

Through googling it seems it has something to do with pxelinux.0 but the other computers I have tried are working. tftp pxe-t01 : file not found pxe -e3b : tftp error - file not found pxe-m0f : exiting pxe rom

geekthattweaks Posted July 17, 2009 Author Posted July 17, 2009 The computers that froze after the password was entered are now working in text mode. The others still have the tftp error. It doesn't appear to be a hardware fault though. Thanks for the help.

Thanks for the help. forgive me if i sound stupid as networking TCP / IP isnt my strong point, but are these 2 troublesome IT suites on a different subnet? are the IP addresses within the scope of the DHCP / TFTP server if you set one? can u ping the TFTP server from a machine in there?

Also your password looks encrypted, it could be a character it dosnt like, in the examples ive seen there plain txt passwords. whitenight639 Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 I know what it is now! you have to change the password mannually in the default file it dosnt work for me inside fog, its an MD5 hash something like $0$123456789 just change it to a plain text password and it works.

From the fog management interface, go to users. 2. Reset the fog user password. 3. Click the "I" icon - "Other Information" 4. Click "Fog Settings" in the menu on the left 5. Replace the FOG_TFTP_FTP_PASSWORD and the FOG_NFS_FTP_PASSWORD fields under FOG settings with your Linux fog user password. (Seems like FOG_NFS_FTP_PASSWORD is gone for ver .24). For Versions .24 + * Reset the local password for user fog with: [sudo] passwd fog * In management front end, go to Storage Management -> All Storage Nodes * Click on DefaultMember * Change the Management Password to match the password you just changed. * Then go to Other Information and change FOG_TFTP_FTP_PASSWORD also. I've set up FOG on my laptop and have another laptop wired with an ethernet cable to test it, i can now get to my PXE menu and choose from the options such as memtest, quick host registration etc, i was having a fatal error: hard disk not found error at work, but ive rebuilt the kernel (bzimage) to include loads of extra storage drivers and modules, this now works and i dont get this error. However when ive set FOG up on my laptop i had to set up DHCP server and ive messed up the IP settings, fog still runs from the browser at localhost/fog/management but when i try to do things i get ftp login errors, hopefully this shouldnt be a problem at work I can just copy my bzImage over and my pxelinux.cfg directory over (as i installed ubuntu ontop of windows and the TFTPBOOT is in the root aka C:\ so it left my original. ANYWAY, i now have a problem in that after selecting quick clone, or quick upload or whatever its called from the PXE menu I put in my password it loads up then asks me again for a username and pass, which dosnt work, it wont accept anything, Is this the same problem you'r having or is it the not accepting your login at the PXE menu? If so i'll have a root around for you and see if theres a way to change passwords in the mysql, theres a config.php that contains some passwords. It might be easier to re-install FOG and see if you have the same problem.
