It's that patch time of the month again! Here are the revised update packs for July 2009:

 

Logistix Post XP SP3 Update Pack (July 2009)

 

Contains:

Internet Explorer 8

Media Player 11

All Post XP SP3 Hotfixes (including July Hotfixes)

Adobe Flash 10.0.22.87 and Adobe Shockwave 11.5.0.600

 

Logistix Microsoft .NET Framework Pack (No Changes since April 2009)

 

Includes .NET Framework 1.1, 2.0, 3.0, 3.5 and Service Packs + Post Updates

 

Logistix Office 2007 Compatibility Plus Pack (No Changes since June 2009)

 

Contains the Office 2007 Compatibility Pack + SP2 + Hotfixes and Microsoft Works 6 - 9 Viewer.

 

Logistix Plugins Plus Pack (Updated July 2009)

 

Contains Adobe Flash 10.0.22.87, Adobe Shockwave 11.5.0.600, Adobe Reader 9.1.2, Java 6 Update 14, Quicktime Alternative 2.90 and Real Alternative 1.90.

 

Logistix Microsoft Office Viewers Update Pack (No Changes since June 2009)

 

Includes Microsoft Word 2003, Excel 2003 and PowerPoint 2003 Viewers, post Hotfixes and the Office 2007 Compatibility Pack SP2. Ideal for systems without Microsoft Office installed.

 

Logistix Google Earth 5.0 (No Changes since June 2009)

 

Have you ever wanted to easily and conveniently deploy Google Earth 5.0 to your network? Well now you can. Download and extract Logistix Google Earth 5.0 and deploy the MSI as you would normally.

Hi Michael,

 

I am so looking for ways to integrate these packs into our RIS setup. Nobody seems to keep their update packs up to date these days - especially the ones for Ryans VM Integrator.

 

The Google one is excellent and will be used tomorrow.

Realistically there are two ways you can do this. Either use a tool like nLite and integrate hotfixes, drivers and other tweaks you want and use this image with RIS or alternatively, use a combination of RIS and Sysprep. Sysprep allows you to run custom scripts at the end of imaging. I've not tried this, but in theory all you'd have to do is change the path variable and enter 'EXIT' instead of 'PAUSE' at the end of the script.

 

I'm not sure if Sysprep has a timeout limit as it can take a considerable amount of time to install all hotfixes silently on slower machines.

I've extracted the Google Earth 5.0 package and put it onto our application server - but when I try and allocate it via a new GPO I am getting an error message:

 

'Google Earth.msi

Add operation failed. Unable to extract deployment information from the package. Run validation on the package to ensure that the package is correct.

Ok'

 

It installs fine if I just double click on the MSI on my local machine.

 

Any ideas?

When you extract the Google files, you need everything within: C:\logistixonline.com\GoogleEarth to deploy the MSI. Just move the GoogleEarth folder to your deployment directory. I'd also recommended you deploy on a per computer level rather than per user.

Microsoft's web site says "Customers may not redistribute hotfixes without written, legal consent from Microsoft" (Description of the standard terminology that is used to describe Microsoft software updates for example)

 

Assuming you have that consent, would it be wise to include a copy of it on the download page? Lots of people here may be prepared to trust your web site but it would be good to have proof that they are safe, legal downloads.
