Today, at one of my schools, my old server went away to be stripped of its data and consigned to the server graveyard. Soon I will have a new one with 64bit Windows Server 2008 on it.

But I am sad, all the same :baby:

Also, that means I will have nothing to do for the rest of the week except clean! Do enough of that at home - I don't need to do it at school as well. Those IT suites are absolutely filthy!

The old server is dead, long live the new Server! :)

I found a mouldy cup of tea in the suite this morning, made me retch. Pretty sure it wasn't mine :)

All 12/13 of ours are going. I shall miss them.

However, VSphere servers, 16gb+ RAM and terabytes of SAN in the new building shall go some way towards easing the pain, I'm sure.

Mine has gone too - only about 4 years old - seems a life cut short to me- which is why I have done my best to future proof this time :)

You do get strangley attached to them I have to admit. One of mine went earlier in the year - I liked it, I knew all of it's little quirks.

But the new 2K8 has a whole heap of big quirks to get used to, so I don't have time to mourn the passing.

Sympathies on the cleaning, I have all that to look forward to next week.

Oh, great, I'll look forward to those then in September

There is only one server in my rack I will be sad when it goes and that is my shiny HP Proliant, but its got at least another 100000 years to go yet as I only got it in March this year as an emergency replacement after one of the home brew ones went pop, and at the budget forecast it will be still here long after I'm gone.

One of mine has just gone from the office...Z004, my hard working Quadcore Dell Poweredge. 18 months old, he was. *sob*

Now virtualised, disjoined, and set for a new life as a backup box for our ESX lot. Z003 (Dual core PE) will follow soon. Heh.

Z002 is just a glorified P4/3ghz desktop print server..he'll be retired. Z001 is clickview, and will also be retired.

Ah, this feels strange..:)
