dhicks Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 I was just wondering if you let Teachers use twitter in School? Yes. -- David Hicks
bossman Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 @HTCIT: Blocked by LA but I doubt if any of our staff would know what it is and I am not going to educate them. 1
HTCIT Posted July 3, 2009 Author Posted July 3, 2009 Oh right fair enough. We have a couple of member of staff which knows how to use it. They install an app for it called "Tweet Deck". I am asking you should we allow them to use it??
tech_guy Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 Don't go there. We get constant moaning from some staff because they can't access Facebum...
Edu-IT Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 As long as it's being used appropriately then I wouldn't worry. I find Twitter can be really helpful at times.
tech_guy Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 I use my Twitter account (outside of work hours) to tell very unpolitically correct jokes. I get death threats. I love the internet.
pete Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 It's not blocked here (and there's a twitter account they can follow to get user-friendly network status info).
srochford Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 Oh right fair enough. We have a couple of member of staff which knows how to use it. They install an app for it called "Tweet Deck". I am asking you should we allow them to use it?? You're really asking the wrong people:-) We'll all have opinions but the people who need to have an opinion are your senior management. The only real technical decision is can you allow certain groups to use it and block others because management may say staff can use it but anyone abusing it will be blocked. If you can't block some and allow others then you may have to block all of them. I'm sure there will be good teaching uses for it; there will also be perfectly valid personal uses for it outside working hours and it's not a technical decision. I think Twitter is also rather different from things like Facebook, iPlayer etc which have a potential to clog up bandwidth. Tweets of a few hundred bytes don't really have that problem.
zag Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 We have it unblocked in our school, fair few people use it. I don't see the problem really. Just make your account private if your worried.
CAM Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 Blocked by LEA here as well. It used to work until it became popular and was no longer under the radar.
Sylv3r Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 @HTCIT: Blocked by LA but I doubt if any of our staff would know what it is and I am not going to educate them. Same LA so same answer.
OllieC Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 Yeh we let staff access it. There's literally one or two who I have known to use it in school other than myself.
