looking at doing some installs of parental control software round here, found 2 products which look decent:

 

Parental Controls and Internet Filters - Parental control software by Precipice software

 

and

 

Monitor and control your child's use of the Internet.

 

anyone used either and can comment? Price isnt really an issue, thinking round the $40 mark.

 

Any other products you can recommend?

What about K9 Web Protection?? I use it on my kids PC and know of several friends and family members that use it for their kids as well.

 

It has some nice features like an override option and you can set your own white/black list. Best of all it is free for residential use.

Been a while since I tried it out but I did note that if your kids knew how to access the email account you used when you set it up they would be able to request a code to turn it off. So watch out for that one.

Is it better than the professional paid for ones though? Im looking at offering this as a professionally installed and supported service delivered to parents.

It is reasonable about what it does and somewhat more difficult to bypass than a tack on solution.

Another, although rather complicated and tech savvy, solution is to run a SmoothWall Express on an old machine with DansGuardian.

The first is a non starter completely. Im looking at something I can mass roll out to families, no-ones going to want a whole other machine.

 

And Im looking for a whole monitoring system, not just web filtering. I want stats, time restrictions, email monitoring, regular screenshots even, etc etc.
