Projectors and Privacy

we are about to move over to staff PC in every class room for registration one point that has come up is the fact of those PC's that are and will be hooked up to projectors spewing SIMS and emails onto the wall. Previously SIMS wasn't accessible and anything else was discouraged if students were in the rooms but with everyone having a PC now we want to push everything being used as much but securely.

 

Do others just get staff to turn projectors off when using sensitive data or have other ingenious solutions?

 

One idea we have had is to buy a load of twin headed graphic cards and have the projector on the secondary screen allowing only information specifically placed on to the projector to be shown. Anyone else doing this?

We have a similar set up. Teachers are advised that projectors are in no-show mode all of the time, except for when it is used for the main teaching & learning parts of the lessons.

lots of our projectors here have a freeze function for when staff want to look at other things.

I think it is a function of some projectors, working off the remote. That is another option we've looked at.

For some reason I've never notice that, will come in handy for a few things I reckon.

Here where ever there is a projector hooked up to a classroom computer which is near enough every class they are turned off at all times and then just turned on when the teacher wants to use it (for teaching).

 

However they do seem to forget to turn them off and we find them on with nobody in the room this gets some what annoying when where told by them that they forgot.

EvLPhenom: If teachers use them nearly every lesson, I've read it's best to turn them on first thing and turn them off last thing, and use the blank screen/no-show feature when it's not required; all in the name of lamp life.

There are two cheepo options:

 

#1 (cost free) use remote to change input source to RCA or s-Video

This is only really an option for short periods.

 

#2 buy a poor man's KVM (they look like the old fashioned printer switch boxes).

When the teacher need's privacy they simply switch to the second output which won't be connected to anything.
