Could someone point me in the direction of blocking .exe files running on our network. We are running Server 2003 and XP clients. There are two places that .exe's are aloud to be run - C drive (kids can not add there files there so it will just be the preinstalled software) - shared drives on the server. ( //server/software.exe where there is a shortcut in the startmenu pointing to this) I would like to block .exe running from there mapped drives and any other disks such as USB Floppy and CD Rom Any advice on where to start looking would be great Thanks Lee

Hi after looking at some of the other threads i decided to give ThinStation a try as we have some old ICL machines that we have to boot into NT then the kids have to click start then remote desktop. Everything else has been removed from the NT station but it is still slow on booting and loading remote desktop. I have tried ThinStation Live CD on a normal computer that has a CD drive and i am quite happy with the way it connects so i was hoping to deploy this onto our thin client machines. This will mean it all running from the Hard disk, has anyone done this or give any help as i have tried using some of the help guides but not managed to get it working from them. Thanks Lee

Thanks for the quick reply I have tried lots of diffrent codecs already could you recomend any other packs to try. I have looked on the digital blue software and there is nothing on there. What i find strange is that it works fine as standalone its just when its played when sitting on a network drive, and the only change is the instalation of SP2. Thanks Lee

We use Digital blue movie makers and we have some students that are using these to make small videos for there web sites. The problem I have is that when they are on a XP machine with SP1 they can play the videos on their web site if they are on there network drive or if they are on a flash drive. If the users are on a machine with SP2 which most of them are they can not play the videos from there network drive. What happens when they try to view the video is that they get sound but no picture. Again if they store it onto there flash drive it works fine. Has anyone come across this problem or know a solution? Thanks Lee

There may be the possibility that our school will be on a split site soon we currently operated a network running 2003 server and xp clients. The other site is running similar. Does anyone operate a split site? If so what do you advise is the best way if achieving this? The main things it will need to do is enable a teacher to be able to logon on either site and still be able to access every thing as if they were at there home site. One idea I have had is to use one of the fiber links that has been installed for the broadband and find out if the phone co can route this back to the other site. The distance between the 2 sites is about 1.5km. Any info suggestions would be helpful. Thanks Lee
