SIMS.net CTF file

Ok, so I'm getting mixed thoughts on this issue - does the CTF file contain any attached documents?

 

We scan in letters to pupils now, so it'd be nice if it did! Else it kind of makes it difficult when they move up, as we still have to keep hold of paper copies of everything!

I'm afraid the CTF does not include scanned documents. Schools can extract documents from pupil records and package them up as zip files and send them as generic files via the S2S website though.

We have considered inventing a solution because this comes up a lot. Trouble is that as soon as we did it would be a proprietary solution. We need Becta/DCSF to define a standard.

We wouldn't mind, we love SIMS. At least transferring between the 22,000 we could send all the docs etc. Wouldn't it be SIF?

Matt are you trying to set me going! I'm pretty sure that SIF doesn't do document transfer and would it really be wise to send out potentially huge files to any school that is listening?

 

I'm not ruling out "setting a standard" on our own but we did that with school/LA data transfer and offered it to all suppliers FOC but agencies don't like propietary standards.

SIF now maybe pretty limited, however, maybe not in the future. Surely too much data is better then not enough? I think if the previous school has spent the time inputting the data locally, it should be important enough to be passed on to the new school.

Yes Phil, we all know how you feel about SIF, we've all seen your quote on Wiki about how it "would incur a significant cost to their software". On the positive, Bromcom isn't apart of SIF and there was me thinking they would of been first on SIF train.

 

Still SIF is typical government, most schools use this MIS program called SIMS made by this company called Capita. Wouldn't you have hoped they would have said, hey let's based it on that?
