PC unable to display Webpages

I have a PC that is unable to display webpages. But it is 'connected'. For example, I can ping msn.com and get an ip back, but it fails to display the page. I've checked its ip and it is grabbing an ip from the dhcp.

 

I've moved this pc to another network and it will connect and display webpages.

 

On the network that it cannot display pages, two other Pcs (new to the network) were able to grab, connect and display pages just fine.

 

Before I go back to the client, I would like to be prepared with a few solutions. The only one I can think of is to ipconfig /flushdns then ipconfig /registerdns

 

Any other ideas?

possible firewall in place? do websites show up in another web browser

do an ipconfig and see if there is any other gateway's listed than your own...

 

I know my Win 7 RC machine has decided to add 0.0.0.0 as a gateway, so I have to remove this before webpages work... everything else works fine though.

Do they have a 'smart' router, I have had to deal with a 3com one that detects lots of open connections and thinks that the machine is infected with something so blockes off web traffic on the port.

Is it all web pages, or just the MSN site that you describe in your post? Is the problem limited to IE - have you tried other browsers (already suggested).

 

Do you use a proxy server - are the settings correct?

I had a similar problem at a clients - turned out that the router has at some point previously been configured to act as DHCP server (rather than the 2003 SBS PDC) and the ip addresses for the failing workstations where still in its routing tables. Cleaning down these tables solved the problem for me. Try rebooting the router.
