lionsl2005 Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 I am a newbee here. i am asked to reconstruct our school website (primary) as its not updated for ages. i came across this joomla package. how its works? how to play arround. is there any user guide / tutorial ? your help would be much appriciated. Thank you
Jamo Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 To play around with the Joomla package I would recommend installing XAMMP [ame=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XAMPP]XAMPP - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia[/ame] on your local machine and trialing the package. Have you ever played with any web server apps? Usually a standard web hosting package will give you everything you need to run Joomla when you are ready for a production ready setup. I beleive there is a set of requirements on the Joomla site. 2
lionsl2005 Posted June 9, 2009 Author Posted June 9, 2009 I havend had a chance to play arround any web server application. I am looking in to XAMPP.
daboroe Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 xampp is good. I use it as a development server for an internal network that i know who has access to the web server. I am going to try to move everything to a more of live server opened up to the outside world. i have been joomla and edu geek for a while. edu geek gives joomla the competitive edge i believe to do sites for educational institutions compare to those companies that sell it. I do sites myself and sell my services and a lot of places i have talked to want a simple joomla site nad not all this advanced stuff. some due and i have to tell them that if you really want that feature you need to pay for that now so i can incorporate it. if you have quesitons just post them in here, i usually come here several times a week to try to help out. if it is more of a joomla issue you can post here or at the joomla official forums as well. thanks edu geek m. brown my views expressed in postings are not the views by any of my employers, persons or busineses ossiocated with me.
