Is the site you are using owned and controlled by someone other than you? If so then consider it not private (if you don't like using the term 'public')!

It's private in the sense I can't be found and i take the steps not to add people from work and nobody can see anything from my profile, but very true it is a site owned by someone else if you want to be pedantic.

 

I think you've made a good point, if something is put on a site like this it's not public as private as you try to make it... don't add those dodgy fit birds you've never met as they're out to get you, not in it for your lucky charms.

I think best thing is to look at this way no one is saying you can't do it but what you need to think is how it is going to viewed by other people who decide if you get a pay rise.

 

As this extreme case of someone being suspended what I am thinking is those who for example go for pay rise... what you think if you get a pay rise is based purely on how you work performance is errm sorry this is welcome sign that says "Welcome to the real world"

 

Wrongly or rightly pay is decided on politics and then your work.

 

I will share insight with you I was told and think this very true is you right something on a website be that facebook or edugeek. Do you mind that being printed on front page of the daily mail (insert any national newspaper).

 

Anyway I am going to bow out of this thread is my views are there and already had one of those days

Been following this thread. My thoughts are that there have been several cases already in the media of people being fired for comments about their jobs. We all teach kids how to be safe online. How not to give out details that will render them at risk. Adults too need to be mindful that as said earlier not being the owner of said blog or site leaves you wide open to scrutiny on anything you post there. Basically it get's down to covering your backside at all times jobwise. Common sense in most cases.
