Laptop still loading Printer on old server

Hi all,

 

We have recently moved all our schools printers onto a new virtual server. Since moving them over we have had to call in all the laptops to delete the printers currently loaded on. We have the edited the group policy so the new printers are pulled through at start up. Pretty simple.

 

However, we have had one user come back with an issue. When the user logs on it pulls through all the printers she should have plus her old default printer (staffroom). Now when this printer is deleted everything seems normal until the user logs back on, at which point it is back. Our first thoughts were with proup policy but after hours of trawling, we came up with nothing.

 

Could this be saved somewhere on the computer as when I log on it puls through as well?

 

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Logon locally on the machine that has the ghost printers, open registry and navigate to

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Print\Connections

 

See if the ghost printers are listed there and delete them. Reboot and see if that worked...

 

If not look under "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Connections" as well.

Thanks for your quick response dtakias. Unfortunately I have just run through both of these options and in both cases there is no "Connections" entry. However, I have found there are certain printer listed within the "Printers" entry. Unfortunately the printer in question is not there!!

 

Any more ideas?

Is it something as simple as a batch file in all users startup folder?

Is the machine logging on to the domain?

If yes is it roaming or mandatory profiles?

In any case open registry, mount your network profile and navigate to HKEY_USERS\*your profile*\Printers\Connections see if anything is listed there...

printers can getr stuck in the users profile at times ive had it whereby normal users dont see old printers but as soon as i log in as admin i have printers that are long gone

Have you run gpedit.msc and looked under User Config/Windows Settings/Scripts?
